Battlestar Galactica

Recommended Posts

Honestly? I doubt the fan base is high enough to make it profitable. The only two capital ships in the entire franchise that are recognizable are the Battlestar and the Base ship. Yes it's true they can expand the fleets, but with only 2 recognizable anchors, I'd call this an uphill climb.

I wouldn't buy it, and I was a huge fan of the original series.

--edit--

Though, if your heart is set on it, I have seen the Galactica ships on Shapeways (both capital and fighters, from both the original and the remake). You could always order, and use them with the rules that are already out for your own enjoyment.   :)

BSG would be an auto-buy for me. It is a more limited setting, but it's okay to have a game limited in scope. Particularly if it were compatible with Star Wars for some cross-universe action.

I would also love to see Babylon 5.

So much of this.

Then you both may be in luck. Babylon 5 A Call to Arms was (might be is, but doubt it) a fleet miniatures game set in the B5 universe. It looks like it's based along the lines of the old Star Fleet Battles but confess I know nothing of it past its existence save that both the publisher of guides as well as the miniature manufacturer lost the license around 2009. As near as I can tell, the license was passed around to a couple of different companies so there may be even more out there if you're dogged enough looking for it.

While I have seen a few of the B5 ships on Shapeways, my advice would be to  give a quick hit on Ebay or a large used games store. They're likely to yield up what you're looking for, and be a tidy bit cheaper.

Best of luck to you both!

If you are talking the Mongoose games A call to Arms it was a very simple game. I think that if you are going to look for a out of print game then the AOG Babylon 5 wars is 1000% better (I have both, still play B5 Wars sometimes).

B5 Wars was more complicated (a Star Fleet Battles-lite) and was considered canon by JMS. Call to Arms was basically the same rules as Battlefleet Gothic set in Babylon 5. It was fun, but had balance issues.

I think the SW Armada system would work nicely with B5 universe and would make a better fit than ACTA did. B5 Wars is still a good game.

It would be nice to have something more current that others can easily get into.
