Attack the idea, not the person holding it.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I know things can get heated when talking about things we're passionate about, but that's not an excuse to be hurling insults at each other left and right. We all love this game, and each of us likes different aspects of it. If you think there's something wrong with someone else's reasoning, enlighten them. Don't start a flame war just because there's a screen and several hundred miles between you, you might meet as opponent's at a regional or worlds, and at that point you should be able to play as friendly rivals rather than rival cliques.

Something to think about as Regionals approaches.

In my experience, the problem is way more often the other way ... too many people are completely unable to recognize when a statement or idea is being criticized, and instead leap upon the criticism, hate-******* it with wild abandon while screeching about how brutalized and offended they are.

... I mean, everybody visualizes it like that, right?

My experience on this board has been great so far (long may it continue!)

You're an idiot.

Love the irony. That being said, I just seem to be noticing unhealthy discussion more often.

This is probably as good a place as any to reiterate that the forum has a very useful but well-hidden "ignore" feature. If you need to get there, here's how:

1. Click on your portrait anywhere on the site (you can always find it in the upper right corner of the page).

2. Click the blue button on the right side labeled "Edit my Profile".

3. Click the "'Ignore' Preferences" tab on the left.

4. At the bottom of that page, there's a box labeled "Add a new user to my list." Enter the name of another poster, and check (at least) the box labeled "Posts".

5. Click the blue button marked "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.

You're sitting on a throne of lies.

You smell like beef and cheese.

...is it because of the lies?

Do lies smell like beef and cheese?

Do they TASTE like beef and cheese?

Is it good beef and cheese, or the worst fast food burger kind of beef and cheese?

Mmmmm...beef and cheese...

Sometimes certain people have a very hard time separating their ideas from themselves and take anything negative said about the idea as being something negative about themselves.  There are also a few people who do not seem to care about rational discussion on topics yet keep going on every time one shows up; you know the idea that if you say something long enough and loud enough eventually you'll "be right" because everyone will be sick of hearing you.

My favorite is when someone posts in the Rebels discussion about how they have an opinion that it's for kids and they get jumped all over like they offended someones wife, kids, and dog.

I avoided the thread for that very reason. Rebels IS for kids but why does it matter? If you're a grown-up who likes it, what's wrong with it? I'm 31 and I love Pokemon, always have & always will. Embrace your geekdom!
