incinerator950 387 Posted March 10, 2016 Still having issues with Steam's version of X-Wing Alliance. I've made it up to and completed the attack on Liberty by the TIE Experimentals, but dogfighting is proving very difficult. It's a combination of occasional frame rate drops, the highly obscured views from the XWAU cockpits and my joystick, I think - making it extremely tricky to track fast-moving targets (i.e. TIEs). Reloading missions sometimes helps with the framerate problems, but it's disappointing. Growing up, I was always amazed with the Mk 5 with that engine. Always flew with one as a wing man, but I couldn't figure out how to mod it to flyable.
Akaga 39 Posted March 10, 2016 Anyone know if there are plans to include the Gunboat or Missileboat from the TIE Fighter video game? I was a fan of those when I was a kid and, since they included the TIE Defender, I think it would be cool. What, how dare you, no TIE Avenger?! We got the TIE Advanced; didn't want to be greedy. 1 DariusAPB reacted to this
Black Knight Leader 424 Posted March 10, 2016 Yeah, I went GOG... Steam is the better choice for new games I find, but for the classics. Gog every time. I am getting the Alien Alpha, would you consider AvP 2 a classic? Which version should i get, steam or GOG?

TIE Advanced is Vader's iconic ship. The actual production Advanced, TIE Avengers, are missing. Saying we're lucky because we got a near mandatory ship is like saying Chaos Marine players should be greatful for being able to ally with themselves and Chaos demons. Half life 1 and 2, both classics. AVP2... I can't. I've got it, it's definitely a GOG. Generally, anything before 06 is probably better off GOG. SEApocalypse 4,443 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) Anyone know if there are plans to include the Gunboat or Missileboat from the TIE Fighter video game? I was a fan of those when I was a kid and, since they included the TIE Defender, I think it would be cool. More importantly I want the Avenger. We have no the TIE Advanced x1, x7 and the TIE/D, but we are still lacking the TIE Advanced itself, TIE/AD. I was a fan of those when I was a kid and, since they included the TIE Defender, I think it would be cool. What, how dare you, no TIE Avenger?! We got the TIE Advanced; didn't want to be greedy. Actually we did not got the TIE Advanced (TIE/Ad), the Avenger is the finished TIE/AD, what we got is a TIE-Advanced Prototype. /x1 and and the defender prototype x7, plus the actual defender. The Avenger would be another model (technical the x7 should have its own mini as well). And lets be frank here, the model of the Avenger looks way better than that rusty toy of vader. So, we need keep going: Edited March 11, 2016 by SEApocalypse 2 Arma Quattro and stegocent reacted to this

Never go steam for older games Gog is so good they dos box it for you and if it does not work they refund with no hassle. Never had an issue with them. Amusingly, I bit the bullet today, uninstalled Steam and X-Wing: Alliance, bought a USB controller, downloaded the the GOG version, installed the XWAU pack and... ...it's performing worse. Conandoodle 1,817 Posted March 20, 2016 If you install X-Wing Alliance via Steam/GOG, can you install the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade for it too? I would love to see these patches applied to the X-Wing and Tie-Fighter series. The mechanics and story of the game are flawless ... the graphics could use a little overhaul though. 2 DariusAPB and stegocent reacted to this
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted March 21, 2016 I use the GOG XWA, and upgrade works fine. The mechanics of XWA are not flawless, and the missions are plagued with bugs.

FTS Gecko 24,135 Posted March 30, 2016 I don't follow? How does one not have steam on there computer these days. Does not compute.....malfunction ...... It was literally only there for X-Wing Alliance and the remastered Baldur's Gate games. So it went bye-bye. GOG-Wing is working fine now. Still a couple of framerate stutters here and there, but mostly spot on. Currently flying the mission where you have to Poe Dameron the core of the Kuat Drive Yards research facility. It is not like steam is bad, it just not as good as gog. GoG seems pretty good for older games but steam has steam sales and most humble bundle keys are for steam,d seen a few for gog but not many. Also Total War is steam only. Also steam has a great community of modders, so if you want to star wars up your homeworld... And Nexus just got an epic patch bringing that great game into the post modern age of resolution
SEApocalypse 4,443 Posted March 31, 2016 Oh nexus got a patch great? Installing right now Though for the sales, the gog.com sales often beat the steam-sales, they have a good amount of new games as well and the DRM free option is naturally prefered. They catalog is admitattley smaller and I do like steam workshop mods as way of keeping the mods auto-updated. In general the steam framework is imo a nice toolset, but overall I still take gog over steam. And again, frankly the catalog and sales on gog.com are more than enough to keep you bussy. Steam really is optional and personally when having the option between both I usually pick gog.
