Armada Team Tournament - Vassal

Recommended Posts

Ardaedhel vs SkyCake Wednesday, 30 March at 2100 CDT/0200 (31 March) GMT

Edit: Biggs, you gonna volunteer for some more self-torment here, go for an even 3 for 3? ;)

he's out of town without internet access the 30th...so I doubt it

It's cool, I know he'll be commentating about apple butter in spirit.

Ard vs SkyCake 10-0 in SkyCake's favor. 406-46 by my preliminary math, which may be wrong because it's very late and I'm tired. :)

Fantastic game on Joe's part: he nuked Rieekan by round 2, fastest I've ever lost him. After that my whole strategy just fell apart.

In brief: he played it exactly right, targeting Rieekan hard; I got greedy when I saw the ISD's drop to 0 and split my fire instead of focusing like my original plan called for.

Very well-played, SkyCake!

This has to be the shock of the tournament so far for me. Well done Skycake!  Congatz to FTV. They have consistently amazed me this tournament.

(I would have begged Ianediger to let me play you when we drew you in round 1 cause I thought my list would demolish your's. Now definitely not so sure.)

Great game last night! Thanks to Ard for staying up so late with me, I could tell the guy really needed some sleep... nevertheless, he was courteous and kind and had no issue answering my many questions about the game...

Game notes:

1. Speed zero 1 round may have won me the game. It meant one less turn of sw7 barrage, and with only 3 hull and 5 hull left on my ISD's after 6 rounds, I'm glad I made that decision..

2. Spammed engineering rounds 3 through 6 and only wing commander'ed a couple of them away... having both the eng commands to mitigate damage and the flexibility to call squadrons last second helped tons! Especially for a new player like myself who is less able to get the most out of the command stack...

3. I can never pronounce "Dengar" without saying it in some weird Australian accent... "Deeeeengah"

4. Teamspeak was an excellent way to play out the game and I would look to use it in any match I could.

5. After Ard retired for the night, captainICT correctly calculated the mov to be 364...

6. Han Solo is a boss! Took out 2 tie advance, and a bomber, and activating first is a really great way to tie up bombers!

All in all, I had a lot of fun, learned a lot too... can't wait for my next game of armada!! Cheers!

You know, that's probably my fault.  :D

Lol, likely! That and I've been watching too much Mad Max lately! :-)

Onca vs Truth

Onca wins

299-115

8-2

Objective was Minefields

-----------------------------------

Quite an exciting game. Lots of weird maneuvers. My ISD ended up doing a complete 180 at the end. Also there was that really narrow shave with my GSD (pictured below).

The squadron fight was quite one sided, as my squads were geared specifically to deal with bomber squads. Especially those that relied heavily on Jan/Dengar. My experiment with IG88 was somewhat a success. I was able to target the intel ships and other well placed bombers with him, and really pressure Truth into trying to keep Jan safe; reducing her effectiveness. My advanced did a fantastic job of soaking up all the X wing attacks, while soont kept pinging them and their Yavaris attacks.

Dorrin vs Cutter ended up in a 10-0 to me, MOV of 394.

We played Cutter's Fire Lanes, all of the obstacles ended up in a cluster on one end of the board and the fire lane tokens went in them.  I jumped my corvettes up fast and grabbed the first round of tokens, Cutter got the second round of fire lane token.  We called it bottom of turn 3 he had 1 VSD with 1 health left.  Cutter got really unlucky this game with his bomber dice, he had something around a 75% miss rate for the game.

Well played Cutter I was a little worried going into this one.

Full credit due to Onca here. He gave me some very bad choices for objectives and forced me into some bad positions. However, this was probably one of my worst performances in a while. I could have kept my flagship alive by changing any one of three bad decisions. Oh well. It was a fitting end to a poorly constructed list.
