eggman84 30 Posted February 9, 2016 First and foremost, I love this movie. But after watching it many times I am always left with one lingering question. If Deckard was a Blade Runner, which were described in the opening scene as those who hunt Nexus 6 replicants, why does Bryant have to explain to him what they are as if he had no clue? You would think a person trained to hunt down these replicants would at least have some basic knowledge of what he was hunting, but it seems Deckard was clueless. Green Knight 9,732 Posted February 9, 2016 For the benefit of the viewer - who IS clueless.
eggman84 30 Posted February 9, 2016 I really hope that's not the case because it could have been done in a better way, like maybe explaining it to someone who's job isn't to hunt replicants.
Animewarsdude 3,639 Posted February 10, 2016 Like most exposition in films it is is for the benefit of the audience. Otherwise you'd never know who/what and why he was hunting them down, for that matter how many times do you call your friends by name? Imagine a film where the characters know each other and simply refer to each other by "you" for the entire film, it would make sense in universe but for the audience it would be confusing. 1 Green Knight reacted to this
Gazerfoxie 169 Posted February 13, 2016 A couple points, in the continuity.. Deckard's been off the beat for a while at the time Gaff brings him in to hunt the trio, and may not be up to speed on the very latest replicant models, so it makes sense to have Bryant get him up to speeds on the 'newest models' capabilities. Also, Bryant seems to me to be something of a douchebag, so I can see him treating Deckard like a rookie just to tweak him for walking away from the force in the first place. XMARXdotCOM 31 Posted February 15, 2016 So, first off it's been some time since I've seen the film, so this could be flat wrong... I thought that the Nexus 6 was the newest generation of replicant and therefore he would need to be clued in on how good they were. May be wrong. Go read 'Second Variety' by Philip K ****. I always liked it better than 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'
eggman84 30 Posted February 16, 2016 In the scrolling text at the beginning of the movie it talks about how Blade Runners where created to "retire" Nexus 6 replicants.
GronardII 385 Posted February 16, 2016 I'm pretty sure the "scroll" at the start was added along with the narration. Best to ignore it as it directly contradicts the movie. It flat out states the nexus 6 were at least as smart as their designers. Could you see Leon designing a life form? He, by the way, had a C grade brain, while the ladies were both rated B. Had to use super slow mo to catch that.
DiabloAzul 2,636 Posted February 19, 2016 Also, Bryant might not trust Deckard's fake/programmed memories (and probably hates using a hunter-killer skinjob to begin with) so feels the need to spell it out. 1 NotBatman reacted to this

Only of you believe that Deckard was a replicant to begin with...which is not out of the realm of possibilities.
GronardII 385 Posted February 23, 2016 The book had a Blade runner that was suspected of being a replicant. It wasn't Deckard.
DiabloAzul 2,636 Posted February 23, 2016 Huh? Ridley Scott already confirmed he was. It's not speculation.
