How best to use Han Solo

Recommended Posts

Anyone successfully use him in a list? He seems out of place both in a bomber list and in a fighter screen. I was thinking that with his ability you could view him as an additional ship, but the lack of bomber takes away from his otherwise great anti ship dice. Who has successfully integrated him into a list?

Han Solo is a tactical reserve, think of him as coming in at the end of A New Hope to save Luke's ass and allow him to blow the hell of the Death Star.

There are a few defining things about Han ;

1) He is the only squadron that can activate at the most opportune moment : before any ship, through a squadron command later during the ship phase, or during the squadron phase.

2) He has a balanced damage capability between ships and squadrons : 2B 2Bl will net 2.5 damage on average against squadrons (0.5 * 2 + 0.75 * 2) and 1B 1Bl against ships will deal 1.25 damage against ships.

3) He is meant to push forward where the enemy is weaker because of Grit : you want him to ensure that he will only have to deal with one squadron when he wants to get out, so you're not throwing him in the thick of things. After all, no respectable smuggler would throw himself at the hear of an Imperial Fighter wing.

He is better to help out your squadrons break through an enemy fighter screen that he is to fight against ships, and as such he is a mirror to Boba Fett. Thanks to Bomber, Boba nets an average damage of 1.75 against ships + the damage from its activation, but only 2 damage on average versus squadrons. More importantly, his extra damage is more worth on single targets rather than on multiple targets engaged.

So, Han stays out of harm's way, moves in when you want to break through a fighter screen, then moves on to attack ships. He is also different than Dash Rendar in this case : Dash wants to be in the thick of things to get the rerolls (he gets 3 damage on average when he is surrounded by 4 enemy fighters), so he's better acting on his own, while Han is an effective tool to ensure superiority of a given fighter battle so that the squadrons can move on to ships.

He is different from Jan and Intel in the sense that Jan wants to avoid being tied up, while Han helps gain points by destroying the enemy fighters.

Hes the Rebel demolisher, comes in last, and moves out first, the way ive used him to BEST effect is to strip the last little shields of a ship before i activate something else to attack that hull zone.

Send him out on his own, to take out a small fighter group or piss off an ISD by following. No one wastes fire on a single squadron...

Combine him with Adar and he can traverse the entire battle in one turn! great for intercepting those squadrons you didnt think were dangerous.

makes for a good assassin to weaken or kill other named pilots. with that dabble attack trick.  :)

"double" sorry for the miss spelling. Last and first trick.

Pretty sure Armada Han can't do the X-wing Han dabble attack

He can, in essence, achieve the same thing by moving and attacking in the squadron phase (preferably after his target does), then activating that the beginning of the ship phase next round and attacking again.  In essence, two consecutive attacks.

Pretty much as well covered by everyone. When fighting against him, or observing him in action, he is just a really great opportunity and disruption piece, and becomes a real menace in the late game.

^ This. With 7 hull and grit and whatnot he's likely alive after most other squads are dead. With his rogue and special ability it's very easy to use him to put in a point of damage or two on a badly wounded ship or key enemy squadron.

Best way to use han. That is all,

I have that card...good times!

I actually use all my old decipher cards as back art for my xwing and armada cards. It's better than regular art sleeves. I just take a clear sleeve, pop in the armada and decipher cards so both are facing out. Looks great and when something dies i flip it to the decipher side.
