Justakai 1 Posted January 24, 2016 I've been playing a Seeker: Pathfinder for a while now and recently took talents in the Beast Rider specialization and was curious as to how you guys handle the mechanics for wrangling. I thought maybe you would handle it with survival check but another person in our game suggested that you would use an athletics check. Not quite sure what the best idea is and was hoping you guys could help.
Simon Retold 1,125 Posted January 28, 2016 For wrangling (as in capturing a beast), I'd just do what the book suggests - a straight Survival roll. For breaking a potential mount, I'd mix things up a little and do a combination Willpower+Athletics roll.
kaosoe 7,405 Posted January 28, 2016 As the GM, I would have the player describe to me how they were going about capturing the beast, then pick the skill most applicable. If I wanted to make it a key part of the sessions, I would probably break it down into multiple checks. Survival to track the beast. Once found, survival or skullduggery to lay a trap. Then athletics or applicable combat check to subdue the beast if necessary.
