Female pilot cards - List, request and talk

Recommended Posts

I've had the very lucky experience to teach this game to a somewhat varied group of people, and in this certain case, its included a rather high number of women.  (no asian grandmas though, that was a funny story I heard once)

Now, some like it, and some don't.  Just like anyone.

But one thing I've found that has really worked and resonated with some women that have played the game is - having a female pilot card in their list, or at the least on the field for groups and lots of players.

What intrigues is that its the idea that sticks:  Ibtisam's card has a Bwing artwork.  Nobody can tell she's a fishy lady in there.  But being told that this pilot is a girl.  It seems to stick.

Especially with Disney's marketing and the new attraction of Star Wars as something that both genders would enjoy, it seems like a good time to put a thought into how we show this game to people who might be REALLY out of the norm for a miniature, war game.  Meaning, likely not a male, maybe not a nerd, likely not a strong gamer, potentially not American/white.

[This is the point where I say, if you got a problem or want to make this about politics, go away.  Do it in another thread.  I don't even ask you to agree with me.]

Firstly, I was drumming up a list for a friend to go with Carnor Jax, cuz she likes fast units.  Last time we played, I had Juno in her list.  I didn't make a big deal out of it, but I put Juno in to show that hey, not every character in the game is male.

Now, in my second list, I wanted to try and find another meta-strong character.  And... wow.  There is a serious dearth of female imperial pilots.  Here's the full list of "possible" female characters with some background evidence:

(Along with my commentary)

Kath Scarlet (38)

(Imperial version honestly isn't very good.  And I want their list to be pretty strong without being obvious.)
Juno Eclipse (28)
(Awesome.  Played her already.)
Count??? (100)
(Not released)
"Howlrunner" (18)
(Swarming is hard, maybe later.)
"Echo" (30)
(Usually canon-ed as female)
"Whisper" (32)
(I usually canon as female.)
Edit: Redline
(People jokingly say this is the girl from the Tie Fighter anime with the super bomber.)
Total: 272

This is a very short list.  7 pilots.  Not even 2 expansions worth.  No interceptors at all.  And plenty of other nones.

To FFG, please add in more female canon pilots!  Jessica Pava from TFA?  Poe's mother in a Y?  etc.

To my fellow players, help me create some cool custom cards for female characters.  Especially preferably in interceptors and other ships that don't have a single female option currently.  Would also be nice to see some non-blond, white, bombshell characters.  Countess Dyad and Juno I think are this appearance.

Another to my fellow players,  let's for fun create some head-canon for the new ships that are al made up:  The Gozanti ties like Chaser, Zeta Omega whatever FOs, Red and Blue Ace T70s.  Deathrain, redline. etc.

Kath Scarlet (Scum) — Firespray-31

Kath is FUN

Serissu — M3-A Interceptor

Serissu is FUN but only in Epic

Guri — StarViper

Guri is the pornstar of the list as long as enemy is not PS6+

Latts Razzi — YV-666

The favourite pilot here.

Red pigtails all the way!

Drea Renthal — Y-Wing

You don't mess up with pirate queen.

She and her smiley droid....

technically, any of the generic pilots can be female

nothing stopping them there, especially not in TFA where both sides are diverse across gender and ethnicity (and species, in the resistance's case)

and, of course, no one knows who the Epsilon, Zeta, and Omega Aces/Leaders are. We probably never will

Didn't we make Redline the lady from TIE Fighter, since that one did fire lots and lots of super accurate Cluster Missiles?

he's a guy what used to serve under Juno

no word on Deathrain, though, I believe

Ibtisam, Jan Ors, Miranda Doni are the only female rebel pilots I know in game. Nora flew a Y-Wing, Poe's mom an A-Wing and a N-1, a few rogues in Xs, Blade squadron had a female pilot(s?) in Bs.

Ghost will add a couple more.

Scum has the strongest roster; you can make a decent list between Kath/Latts/Drea/Guri (and soon, maybe, Manaroo).

I read the OP three times and I still don't really know what this thread is about, though. If it was political and you were critiquing the lack of women in the game, sure, I could get behind that. But you want Photoshopped custom cards and fanfic that won't stick? Ok I guess. I can definitely help with the first, and possibly with the second, but I don't understand what for.

Does that help? And it's a universal. In pretty much any game system, women are encouraged to take it up / continue playing by seeing women characters.

Hopefully in Imperial Veterans we will have a TIE Bomber ace that is unofficially the awesomeness that is Ms. Robotech Missiles.

"You may maintain up to 2 target locks on enemy ships. Once per round, after attacking with an equipped missile or torpedo, you perform another attack with a missile or torpedo weapon."

Judging by the crowd shots in episode 7 I would say a good 20-30% of the X-Wing pilots were female.

I'm guessing (hoping) that when we get another batch of T-70 pilots released we'll see some of them. :)

There was a female pilot or gunner in RotJ on the rebel side - female combat pilots were never common (more like 10-20% at most), although most squadrons did have 1-2 token female pilots - non-combat pilots were fairly common however, the female crew card from Rebel Transport was also a pilot but not a combat pilot, as were ground crew and in most other positions.

Scum had a lot more female pilots.
