Imperial assault carrier dickable ship types.

Recommended Posts

"You may dock up to 4 TIE fighters, TIE Interceptors, TIE bombers, or TIE Advanced to this ship. All of these ships must have the same ship type."

With the exception of the TIE Bomber all these ships fit very nicely on the provided docking clamps. But be careful! The NEW ships have changed polymers when it comes to the clear plastic peg components. It looks like they switched from polycarbonate to polystyrene and it's far more delicate. I decimated one of the ship attachment points when I tried to attach my new TIE Fighter (that came with the Imperial Assault Carrier) to the docking clamp component. Tweezers and super glue solved the breakage.

There is some debate as to what "TIE fighter" means, as to whether or not it includes the Fu Fighter (TIE/FO). See THIS THREAD for more information.

Thank you everyone, guess I should have read all the cards first.

Would love to know if my FO's can dock.

If they can because they are of the ship type "TIE fighter" then you could, technically, have a mix of Fu Fighters and TIE Fighters on your cruiser. If you had 2 of each, lets say, all 4 ships would be of the ship type "TIE fighter" and would thus satisfy the restrictions of the docking clamps upgrade card.

I don't think so. I think "TIE fighter" and "TIE fighter/fo" are different ship types.

Which brings up Vader in his X1

Since the example in the rules reference that clarifies how this is supposed to work specifically says that foo fighters count as tie fighters, that one is crystal clear.

Since x1 is broken with the Tie Adv. Prototype, I think that the intent is to only have it equippable to the tie advanced. But the rules here aren't clear at all, since plenty of cards (especially the base rectangles) use abbreviations like "Adv." for "Advanced".

The rules say foo fighters count as tie fighters *when equipping upgrade cards*.

They say nothing about whether they count as the same ship when being targeted by abilities such as Docking Clamps or Youngster.

Just as an aside:

Requiring all ships to be of the same type makes this, if it were in a real Navy, tactically inefficient.  It's already pushing the limit of reasonable design by only having space for 4 docked small ships.  Now you can't put a real mix-and-match group of ship types and it begs the question "Why?"

Now, I'm not criticizing the rule in game terms.  Just in the fictional Empire sense.

Uniformity is not really that much of a thing in the Empire.  If you have 72 TIE ships in a Wing, they will be mixed with Fighters, Interceptors, Bombers, etc.  No real reason they wouldn't be on a support ship, except that most squads were uniform.  Ok, so maybe uniformity is a thing, because it would be cheaper to put the same docking clamps on a single ship than to have it outfitted for 3 or 4 different ones.  Though, knowing the Empire, someone, somewhere, came up with a Universal Docking Clamp.  So we are back to uniformity, but maybe not... so now I'm thinking this is more based on conformity... phew... I'm tired...

"Uniformity is not really that much of a thing in the Empire." Are you sure?

Not sure what the photo referenced... but I am imagining something with lots of Stormtroopers.  The uniformity we associate with all of that came because of the clones.  It is their ideal, I agree... for a certain component of the Empire.  If you watch the new movie you'll see that this uniformity is not as uniform as it once was. Also, the problem with this is that for every instance of uniformity, there is an instance of disparity.  Take the Grand Moffs for instance.  The Emperor could have provided protocols and enforced it throughout the galaxy (at least in his mind), but by allowing the Grand Moffs, he allowed for each of his sections to compete against the others, and to the victor goes the lions share of the spoils and praise.  Yes, there are a lot of cogs and wheels that are the same size in the Imperial Machine, but never forget that for the best to succeed, they have to break the rules sometimes in what Pilot-Major Blackthorne would call "serious mitigating circumstances".

Well this is after all cruiser carrying a wing of ships. A star Destroyer with several squadrons on board, would naturally have a mix of Tie types, but a small cruiser like the Gozanti doesn't have the storage space or crew accommodations to service multiple fighter types, hence the cruiser carries all of the same type. If you need different ship types, send a second Gozanti along. Edited by Sierra19

So I was watching Star Wars: Rebels and thinking about why the TIE Adv. Prototype wasn't dockable and how I didn't agree with the idea that it shouldn't be allowed to dock just because of the typed difference between "Advanced" and "Adv." When all of a sudden the gods of X-Wing provided me with a canon reference for a TIE Adv. Prototype docked to an Imperial Assault Carrier (Gozanti).
