BenDay 137 Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) So the other day my 5 year old was asking to play X-Wing with me. Normally we bust out the miniatures and fly them around a bit (no templates required), roll dice and pretend to play the game. However this time I decided to use some of the X-Wing models from the Hot Wheels range. With some very simple rules that are based off of X-Wing. We made a game that sets up in less than 5 min and takes about 10 min to play. We have played it several times and he can concentrate through the whole thing with only minor prompting. Anyway, if you have a kid who loves Star Wars but is not old enough for real X-Wing you should try this. X-Wing Jr. Gamer Components: A few Star Wars ships from the Hot Wheels range (similar to X-Wing but the small ships are larger and the large ships are smaller, they are also cheaper and more robust) A set of "Galactic Dice" (6 red D6s with the faces of Yoda, C3P0, R2D2, Vader, Boba Fett and a storm trooper on them, they are official Star Wars merchandise..don't know where to get them). One normal D6. The Board, a sheet of legal paper divided into 6 equal rectangles, we also have the expansion (another sheet of legal divided into 6 rectangles:) Aim: To win the dog fight, one player is the Rebels and the other is the Empire. Deployment: Players take turns placing ships along opposite short edges of the play area (I have only ever played with two ships on each side, I don't think the game scales well). Turns: Players alternate turns. A players turn is moving and then shooting with one ship. the youngest goes first. Moving: A ship can (normally) move one square, not (normally) diagonally. Ships must move before they shoot. A ship can not move into a square occupied by a friendly ship but can move into one occupied by an enemy ship. Shooting: You can only shoot at ships in your square or an adjacent square (and diagonally). Both players roll a certain number of galactic dice (see ships below) and the attacker also rolls the normal D6. If the attacker rolls more friendly faces then the defender (faces of characters belonging to your faction, Boba is empire) then you score a direct hit and the defender takes the full damage on the normal D6. If you both roll the same number of faces (including both getting no friendly faces at all) then it is a hit and the defender takes half the damage on the D6 rounded down (1 becomes 0). If the defender gets more friendly faces it is a miss. Ships: ( the Hot Wheels Range is quite large but I only have 4 ships) Falcon; 8 Hit Points (the ninth kills it), shoots 2 red adjacent, 3 red in the same square, and defends with 2. Special rule; can move 2 spaces (in a straight line) instead of one if it wants. Tie Fighter (thematically one model is three ships, I wanted to keep ship stats similar); 8 Hit Points, shoots 2 red adjacent, 3 red in the same square, and defends with 2. Special rule; can move diagonally. X-Wing; 6 Hit Points, shoots 3 red adjacent, 3 red in the same square, and defends with 2. Special rule; none. Slave 1; 8 Hit Points, shoots 2 red adjacent, 3 red in the same square, and defends with 2. Special rule; when attacking if it rolls Boba's face it can roll an extra dice (1 max). Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much as us, any feed back would be appreciated.
