So What's Your Favorite Species That Hasn't Been Made Playable Yet?

Recommended Posts

Ewoks, I've said it.... Ewoks.

I say it as well!  I want to play an Ewok Mystic/Seer, and just rock him as a primitive sorcerer.  Maybe his best friend is a Jawa Sentinel/Artisan.

Or, you know, a human Shii-Cho Knight nicknamed for his ugly sweaters.  Bad Cardigan, the greatest swordsman in the Galaxy!

Zeltrons.

More Zeltrons.

PLEASE ZELTRONS!!!!!!!

I can second this.  I've got a friend that enjoys playing the sultry femme fatale character types, and the only thing she's missing is the option to play as a Zeltron; granted she can go Twi'lek or a reskinned Human, but for her it's just not the same.

Is it important that they be published and official, or could you track down something like Ultimate Alien Anthology and convert them?

Dono, i think the Unofficial Species Menagerie had  the Zeltrons, no? Why not use that template?

Alternatively your friend can use a human with the Falleen pheromones rules, the result should be acceptable

I am curious too about the miraluka but i fera the result might be very controversial as we saw on the boards with the various attempt to stat them.

He cowrote the menagerie, actually.

The Iktotchi are also partially Force sensitive, and they included them. They'll probably figure out a mechanic that will reflect them just fine.

The Zeltrons were initially the work of another poster on the EotE Beta forums that I tweaked a bit for the Unofficial Species Menagerie.  I kinda took notes from the OCR, RCR, and Saga Edition versions of the Zeltrons, since at the time there really wasn't a lot of examples to work from in terms of FFG published species, given the lion's share of the work was done prior to the EotE core rulebook being published.

That said, one of the GMs that I get to play this RPG under prefers to stick to official material, no matter how well-written the fan material might be.  Guy even said that he loved the USM, but wouldn't let any of it near his games.  Admittedly, given the horrific experiences he had with fan-brewed 3rd edition D&D stuff, I can't entirely fault him for being leery about material that's not official.

What about applying the Falleen mechanic to a normal human (or just plain reskinning a Falleen)? Would that be ok as it's an official race?

Well, we have Whipid, Gungan and Xexto, now I'm only missing Besalisk (probably in the technician book) and Vratix. Given the Ashern stats in Strongholds, Vratix will probably not be published but should be easy to piece together.

So basically I'm a happy critter!

Mandalorian... I'm not trying to fanboy, not really.  But I'd like to see them.  I think they would be best handled if done just like Corellian Humans were in Suns of Fortune with a more martial bent.

Look at the fan made Rebles Source book you will find the link in the EoTE compiled resources list.

Ortolan (of both the two-limbed canon and four-limbed Legends variety)

Kage

Talz

Chadra-Fan

Kubaz

Kaleesh

Kyuzo

Chardra Fan are in a book already, I want to say it's Stay on Target. But I'm not 100% sure.

We have a master list of what's in what book

I want to see more body diversity. Species that dont follow the standard bipedal, two arm leg torso full of organs biology. I know Star wars has at least a few, not picky as to which actaully make it to a book

Trouble is that for the vast majority of players, those species are too odd for them to really consider as effective characters.

A former poster by the name of Maelora had an interesting observation that for many folks, they tend to see the "pretty" species as being suitable for being leads in the story that is the campaign they're playing in, but the more bizarre-looking the species gets, the less viable it appears to be for a leading role, as there's a sense of disconnect between the player and the character that represents them in the setting.

A great many Star Wars campaigns tend to have a very heavy representation of Humans or species that look very similar to Humans, such as Twi'leks, Chiss (Enter the Unknown), Mirailans, Togruta, and Zabraks.  You'll see Wookiees every so often simply because of Chewie's iconic nature (though given his bigger role in The Force Awakens, I'd be surprised if there's not an upswing in the number of folks looking to play Wookiee PCs).  I've played in campaigns across the various Star Wars RPG systems where there was a single "token" non-Human, which was either a Twi'lek, a Wookiee, or a Droid, while the rest were Humans.

So I think odds are good that most of the playable species we see are going to follow the standard bipedal biology.  There might be the rare exception (Xexto in Stay on Target, Hutts in Lords of Nal Hutta, and presumable Besalisks in the upcoming Technician book), but as I said, those will be exceptions.
