What if Disney remade the prequels?

Recommended Posts

Now I am not talking about a remaster but how about this. What if Disney taking full advantage of their ownership of the franchise does a total JJ Abrhams wipe of G. Lucas' Episodes 1-3 and made an entirely new episodes 1-3. Just think about it, Jar Jar no longer exists, Anikin is no longer crying and there could be a much darker story behind the cross over from the light to the dark side. The current movies we have sure they could still be out but what if the entire clone wars series was retconned. After all they do have the master of retconning JJ Abrahms.

I think one of the huge differences between franchises there is that Trek has a history of time travel while Wars does not.

Disney will never remake the prequels.

As a fan of the OT and the themes and tones therein, I would be all for it. Maybe not an entire remake, there's the backbone of a good story in the prequels.

The rise of Palpatine. The Fall of the Jedi. Namely that Anakin Skywalker falls to the Dark Side out of Love.

No, there is never any time limit after which there is no need for a spoiler. Kids are born every day and people are busy or coming to the party late. Anyway, there a lot of people, namely children or people who were children 15 years ago, who prefer the prequels. I don't understand, but there it is. If Disney were to remake the prequels, they would immediately be embroiled in a huge fan war. Not only against those who do prefer the prequels, but purists, story enthusiasts, and any unknown media works that occur in that time period still in development.

There is no reason for them to do such a thing, when they could more easily simply spend their money making movies about stories we haven't seen, things that will not be as contested. Eliminating the EU was a choice they had to make, but there weren't any full release studio movies about that time period, and not doing so would have them quagmired in the exact same situation we're talking about now.

God I wish they'd remake them though. They could have been better.

The idea has merit, but I would feel that resources are better spent on forgetting the prequels and buffing up starwars as a universe with new video games, movies and series set outside of the established timeline and existent places.

I mean think about even changing around protagonists.

Picture it, a dark gritty war story. An elite team of Imperial commandos on a mission so secret that it could unravel the fabric of the Empire, a target from the birth of the empire itself, an order given Directly from the Emperor. This elite killteam must brave the swamps of Naboo and...

Silence Jar Jar Binks.

Starring: Tom Cruise as Zechs Darius, Christian Bale as TK667, Dwayne Johnson as TK882, Charlie Sheen as TA105 and Sasha Grey as TX6969.

Featuring: Sean Bean as Lt. Jenkins, Justin Beiber as "Rebel in the red shirt". Will Wheaton as Commander Obscura.

Featuring a soundtrack by Jefferson Airplane & John Williams (imagine a starwarsized white rabbit).

I would prefer the prequels to be erased from history altogether.  Let's just not go there, ever again.

Now, if Disney were to do an Old Republic film, however...

Then you would also erase the good Clone Wars series and, by extension, Rebels.

Not all of us like either of those series, clone wars that I saw was terrible I'm told it gets better but I'm not sitting through three seasons of tripe to get to the good stuff.

And rebels is just outright bad, terrible art style terrible main characters and villains so pathetic the good guys look like bullies not heroes.

You can lose both shows and lose nothing of worth in my view.

I've been thinking about Vader's fall to the Dark Side a lot recently and I'm of the opinion that (for the sake of R5D8):

a darker decent for Anakin would ruin the story. We all thought Vader was so bad and he didn't get to show it enough. We all thought he was truly the Dark Lord of the Sith. "There is still good in him," says Luke, but we're all, "Yeah, yeah, everybody can turn good." But that wasn't how Lucas meant it at all. He never really believed in the Darkness; he was just afraid he would lose everything. Then he got caught up in this life where there was no use living and no use dying, so he just kept doing the Emperor's bidding since he was the closest thing to a friend that Anakin had left alive. He was never as evil as we supposed. He just didn't have anything to fight for. Once Luke entered his life, things changed. He did begin to think about betraying the Emperor. He did think about joining Luke. If his fall had been because he embraced the Dark Side and loved all the hateful thing he did, he wouldn't be able to be redeemed (according to Yoda's teachings). If we want to see a Sith Lord fall to darkness and embrace the hatred, we need to see a new Sith origin story. Vader isn't the Sith Lord you're looking for.

So I agree with R5D8 that this aspect of Vader's story would need to go unchanged.

The EU clone wars was always superior to what Lucas made.

Do you have any recommendations for good EU Clone Wars stories?

The noghri death commandos were always a favourite of mine created by Timothy zahn in his thrawn books, the EU could only guess what the clone wars were as there was no detail but what they came up with was far more interesting than what was made cannon.

Actually the thing that got me(probably my biggest complaint with RotS) was that in one scene, he's running up to Windu going, 'OMG Palp is a sith help!!', and in the next scene, he's like, 'nooo don't kill him' and he's read to go slaughter all the jedi. It always made no sense, because there was no leadup to it.

what prequels..? never heard of them...!

*repeating the 'there are no prequels mantra'* *calms down*

:)

Just a thought that came to mind. But here is a video that thinks it could be possible. After all were are in the age of reboots and Star Wars is getting old enough to where you can almost do a full remake of it, okay maybe in about twenty years but sure a full remake starting from Episode 1 to Episode 9 could be possible if Disney thinks it would get them more money.

Just for thoughts here is a video.

I love the guy who did that "What if episode X was good".   I hear his Episode 3 version is due out any day now.

I'd love to see them completely change the prequels, but at the same time I'd also understand if they made very subtle changes.   Like ... suppose they leave Midicloriens IN the story, but instead refer to them as microscopic creatures that are simply ATTRACTED to force-sensitive individuals, thus using them as a measuring tool, but leaving the magic in place.
