Any more Talisman expansions?

Recommended Posts

Probably one filling the gap between the Woodlands and the Highlands.

That was my guess, but it's no real information.

Many hope for an expansion for all expansions like Miskatonic for Arkham Horror; some would like to see a revised Timescape; others dream of completely new expansions which have never been designed before.

We'll see...

As long as the consumers are happy, the rights to the product remain and FF is making profit, I'd have no reason to say that we've seen the last expansion.

Although, I would guess that we may be not seeing many more board expansions.  But who know?!   There are always ways to go up, make alternative and non-connecting boards.

Where there is a will, there is a way to keep the empire rolling.

We don't get much news until something is nearly finished, more or less.

So its why some of us just make up wish-list ideas for new expansions.  For a few years some posters have talked about "expansions to expansions" either moving from/forward those ideas or clearing up / correcting some mistakes or overpowered aspects.

I have an idea along these lines; since the Woodlands brought more fae or fairy type ideas to Talisman, why not "Goblin Invasion!" a small even POD type set that emphasizes goblins and similar type creatures? Goblins/ type creatures would also do well in the Dungeon expansion.

I'm sure there is an idea there, as well as many other possible ideas. Even if the expansion is not an expansion of (requires) a previous set, it could still capitalize on the ideas from a previous set. The Reaper and Blood Moon could benefit by a set that features more cultists, zombies, other were-creatures, cursed objects, etc, even if not directly tied into it.

There are plenty of fantasy themes to cover and I'm sure there will be more. I look forward to the next Realm and hope we hear something soon.

Isn't there someone close to the designers at FFG that they could get some answers?  You know, take the guys out, get em schnockered so they start talking?  Or maybe there is some really good looking girls out there that could....persuade....one of the designers to release some information?  I mean seriously, what kind of world do we live in????

Seriously though, I do believe they will have one more POD and then I hope for the Miskatonic type expansion and hopefully and above all else, I hope for an updated FAQ!

Hey Jedi!  Yeah, I feel that way. When you feel it is time or past time for some news.  Because we all know that there will be another Realm to bridge the Woodlands and Highlands - but the true enemy in our calculations, is 'market-forces'.  Someone, somewhere is looking at the value and potential profits and figuring how to best exploit that.

A Mountains <> Woodlands expansion seems obvious to me. The vicinity to the Graveyard and Sentinel space is interesting.

I would connect the Ravine to a dwarven stronghold with the potential to claim a mighty warhammer or other dwarven treasure. This is a homeage to Karaks Doom and Morak's Hammer in Talisman 3rd edition. In the same vein the Thicket could be connected to elfs with the potential of claiming elven treasure. Making these options to what is available from the City board may make the Woodlands and Highland attractive.

That said I wouldn't mind seeing more use of some of the mechanics introduced in other expansions, such as the trap, burn or night/day mechanic.

I like the idea, JemyM.  In the Deep Realms, the treasures are either from the Treasure Chamber in the Dungeon, or the Armoury/Magickal shop in the City.

So the corollary sounds like Relics from Eagle Lord and maybe Destinies from the Woodlands.

But I too like the idea of Elf or Dwarf treasures.  I've also thought proximity to the Graveyard should mean something too.

If there are no more expansions (except maybe PODs), do you think 5th edition is around the corner?

I doubt it.  For all their expansion-happy business practices, FFG is not in the habit of churning out a new edition just because they ran out of serious expansion ideas for the previous one.  I've seen them put out a new edition while expansions were at an all-time high because the core game engine was turning into a hot mess (Descent) and I've also seen them go upwards of 5 years between expansions while keeping the base game in print as-is, because the core game enigne is fine (TI3.)

When they do a new edition, it's usually because they've got some serious improvements to make to the core game enigne.  Talisman, FWIW, has already gone through 4 editions and a good 20 (30?) years of evolution.  It's pretty solid at its core by now.

One could argue whether the talisman today is a lean mean game or a hot mess. (I would lean slightly towards the latter, for example game plays waaaay too long and is too random in general.)

That's not a base game problem but an expansion problem if you ask me. For me there are enough expansions out now. I still haven't bought Harbinger and deep realms, not because I don't like how they look but because I gave enough Talisman right now.

The one thing I hope for are expansions for the expansions. A few more dungeon and highland cards and some kind of twist/ quest would be great.

Expansions to expansions could clarify possible conflicts - - so the Dragons should be first on the list, LOL, but I would like to see these kind of things for Blood Moon and Woodlands in particular.
