Josep Maria 685 Posted November 19, 2015 Hi everyone and sorry GM Hooly for copying the format XD There are a few of new comics released there days with TONS of really interesting new info. Here are the new sagas: - Star Wars - Leia - Lando - Chewbacca - Kanan - Darth Vader - Son of Dathomir? (not sure about the name) It will be interesting to comment some of the cool events and, of course, adapt it to the game mechanics. A hug to you people! HappyDaze 10,101 Posted November 19, 2015 I think that Son of Dathomir is actually an older Dark Horse title, but Marvel also did Shattered Empire and another Darth Vader spinoff starts this month.
Josep Maria 685 Posted November 19, 2015 Sons of Dathomir was inside the new canon and you are right, I forgot Shattered Empire, thanks
Rhenora Geming 14 Posted November 19, 2015 While I am planning on including the new canon in terms of books, short stories, tv shows and of course the movies, I don't think I'm going to include the comics. I've read the first set of Darth Vader comics and honestly, much of the story didn't strike me as being true to Star Wars. Not to mention it introduced a continuity issue in a very offhand way, as well as having a continuity issue within between two or three issues (not entirely sure since issues 1-6 were released as a collection in a graphic novel). To each their own though, of course.

whafrog 10,384 Posted November 19, 2015 Son of Dathomir was from an unreleased TCW arc...IMHO the comic was very well done. The rest are ... meh. They are exactly the reason I normally wouldn't read comic books, except that it's Star Wars. The Vader and Luke arcs bug me the most. There are a couple of new characters that aren't interesting, and there's too much reliance on the bit characters like Boba Fett and Dengar. Now it's canon that Luke fought Fett blind in a ruin on Tatooine...which only makes Fett more of a punk, and the galaxy really tiny. The Han-and-his-ex-wife thing could have been amusing, but they had to drag it out over several issues with the "slow reveal"...yawn. Counterpoint: the Vader Comics are AWWWWESOME! Counter-counterpoint: that's exactly why they're not awesome, that line is extremely lame. That's not something Vader would ever say. He doesn't waste time on the self-evident, nor is he that self-aware. The only time he has such a revelation is at the end of E6. Until then he apparently still thinks he's bringing order to the galaxy.
GreyMatter 857 Posted November 19, 2015 I just finished the fourth (and last) Shattered Empire miniseries last night. My reaction is "meh". There are a ton of nice details in it, but too much of it screams "tie-in" for it to be enjoyable on its own terms. It has "new canon" written all over it, which is fine, I guess, but it's just too on the nose in places, and is utterly absurd in others. (Really? The Leia Starfighter bit in part 3, where she and Poe's Mom and Queen NabooHair singlehandedly dispatch an Impstar Destroyer II's squadron of TIEs?) At first I thought I liked the art but in retrospect I find it tries a bit too hard to try photorealistic imitations of the film's actors. It's why the comics-origin characters like Shara Bey and Kes Dameron feel like they "fit" more in the comic world than do the film characters. Onto the Vader comics I guess. Any suggestions about where to start with those?
Josep Maria 685 Posted November 19, 2015 I don't remember what is the proper order but it's a mixture between Star Wars (or Luke comics XD) and Vader (now Vader Down too). I have to say, that are epic
Zar 152 Posted November 19, 2015 I think they are too expensive. Marvel adds a dollar just because it's Star Wars. 1 Josep Maria reacted to this

I'd watch a whole movie of nothing but them doing murder-y things. (Also, I'm okay with them expanding on Vader and his badassness.) Ok yeah them winning at 4 to 1 odds means they are much better then their opponents but not unbelievably so. Hell in Legends learning how to fight and win at 3 Imperials to 1 Rebel odds was part of basic rebel X-Wing Pilot training because those odds were considered normal. 1 Colyer reacted to this
Inquisitor Tremayne 424 Posted November 19, 2015 The only one I am not a fan of is the Star Wars title. It is trying WAY too hard to paint the core heroes as legendary and far beyond belief. However, Darth Vader has been fantastic IMO. I find Vader in that book to be very interesting. Plus I like to see behind the scenes Imperial stuff anyway. Plus Triple Zero and BT-1 are hilarious! I even enjoyed Lando series quite a bit. It is a far-fetched scenario but totally sounds like a nefarious GM plot for a group of PCs! I thought the story behind the Leia series was good. I thought they brought some great depth and meaning to Leia that we don't get in the films. In the films it seems like her life is Rebellion, these comics make it more about her people, which was a nice change.

Colyer 100 Posted November 20, 2015 I've read Star Wars, Darth Vader, and Shattered Empire. Overall, I've found that they're style over substance but definitely not bad because of it. I've found Darth Vader to be kind of slow and plodding and the aesthetic is especially "un-star warsy" but I don't think I could really explain why. Shattered Empire doesn't have a lot of plot going for it as it's more just a collection of things that happened, but the art and the military themes both really hit for me. Star Wars is the series that's working best for me as a whole. Good art, fast-pace. Not really as much of an in-depth character thing as Vader seems to want to be, but I think that's fine for now. I'm still subscribed to the ongoings and looking forward to where Vader Down takes us (especially since Darth Vader could use a faster pace). Onto the Vader comics I guess. Any suggestions about where to start with those? They aren't so far in that #1 isn't an option. If you're not into going back that far, I'd recommend just jumping in on Vader Down #1 and following the crossover.
