GW will re-release battle fleet gothic

Recommended Posts

As a big fan of all the old specialist games, my initial reaction is ... meh.

I don't like their new rule systems, and I don't see them leaving the old rules systems in place for the specialist games.

I'll check it out, sure, but it's hard to be excited about it. The pessimist in me just thinks that after ruining their flagship games, they're now going to go ruin other ones in their catalogue.

Also, where's Mordheim on that list?

This is definitely a hoax. GW wouldn't announce all these products which they only just culled in one go. More likely they would announce each individual one when they can start parting people with their money. Also, no official branding.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Most (all?) of them need a major rules update and mechanics modernization, especially Blood Bowl.

Umm, what?  Blood Bowl, using the Competition Rules Pack (CRP), also known as Living Rulebook Six (LRB6), is considered by many to be an incredibly diverse, deep, yet balanced game without a single rules question or debate that hasn't been resolved by the rules (which have been polished over several editions) and the very brief FAQ (less than a page).

Part of the reason the game was so perfected was because of the player committee that designed the most recent editions for GW, thus saving the game from GW's penchant for destroying their properties with stupid, unclear, and unbalanced rules.

YOU may not enjoy the Blood Bowl mechanics, but it's had a very loyal and active fan-community running it (through the NAF) for the past decade and is still going strong.  So if it's too slow or difficult for you to enjoy (I get it, the game is like 'hyper-chess,' it's not for everyone) then please go play Dread Ball or Koas Ball or one of the other half dozen fast and simplified BB spin-offs.  I, like much of the rest of the still active BB community, love the game and can only pray that GW doesn't go about mucking it up.

Aren't GW not renewing their license for the LOTR line, thus the announcement for continued evolving support seem sorta suspect?

I mean, I love BFG, I do (neighsayers be condemned to their allotted torments in Star Trek the Original Series purgatory) but this doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel professional, and it's about as likely as Sisters of Battle getting a full release next week.  You know, a week's notice being all that the consumer gets before something ridiculous happens.  But if this does happen, I'd happily line up to... quibble and mumble, feel conflicted, and consider the possibility that I might consider buying it in the future.  My support may have sailed on the same ship as GW's interest in the Old World.

You know what, that announcement coming to fruition in its entirety is as likely as this becoming canon:

large.jpeg

If that turns out to be true, I will convert that image up, for Necromunda.  What does everyone think, should I get the greenstuff ready now, or after the Mecha-Mongol invasion?

This all should be off-topic too, but c'est la vie, salis diem! (sic)

So do we all, Blail, so do we all.*   But what can we be expected to talk about with no brand new IFF, no status change on the shipment, no Wave 3 announcement, no articles, no world-wide vassal campaign...

What's on Mel's docket for Armada these days?

*Within that scientific margin that allows for weirdoes, the lost, and the damned.

Some of the most fun I have ever had in 35 years of gaming was playing Blood Bowl in college. I am still immensely bitter that they have so totally ruined it with the turnover rule. That single rule completely and utterly sucks every ounce of fun out of the game and turns it into nothing more than a stress inducing, timed statistics exam.

Its a real announcement.

Buy in at your peril. Gw does this on occasion to renew ownersip of their IP's. They will all be dropped again leaving you wondrring why you bothered.

Fumbbl.com to scratch the bloodbowl itch.

Gothic, while great is no match for Armada.

...........

Btw, Bloodbowl is most definatly NOT balanced. It is designed for the teams to require different skill levels to run. Balance in Bloodbowl is written out on purpose...and its a better game for it.

Its a fantastic game.

There is a pretty strong Epic scene quietly continuing in the background still, or so I gather.

Yea, but not for the version they listed. The real Epic System was Epic Space Marine/Titan Legions, axed in the mid 90s. It was a game of several combat Companies of troops, vehicles, super-heavies & Titans. The more recent incarnations were an attempt to bring the the v 40k units into an epic scaled game, while it allowed for bigger units, it was essentially a watered down 40k at Epic scale. If you are interested in the best version, a fan site continued to make rules for the newer miniatures.

I dont think it has seen much support in the last couple years.

Hehe ... no re-release of Warhammer Fantasy?

GW has this awful habit of just wasting their potential on games (inadequate support/development) or hollowing out support through bad rules/balance and then just kind of letting the game die. Then later on some other company comes along, makes a game that scratches a very similar itch that all the abandoned/disappointed players* had and just kind of picks them all up, never to return to GW or its abortive reboots again. It's very sad for GW anyways.

*Warhammer Fantasy < Kings of War v2.0

Epic< Dropzone Commander

BFG < Firestorm Armada, Star Wars: Armada, Dropfleet Commander

Necromunda < Infinity

etc...

GW bashing aside. BFG and Mortheim and even epic were (and are) awesome games you can have a lot fun with.

BFG is a good supplement to Armada because it is another different fleet miniatures system with fine rules.

Very glad to hear this.

Already started my heresy epic project and keen to see more miniatures.
