FTS Gecko 24,135 Posted November 18, 2015 Ah. Literalists. Submission really is preferable to extinction, hey guys?
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) So what? Control? Become a reaper god? Synthesis basically merges the two kinds of life into a new life. Best option. (and Yes, I am sure we ALL discovered the new bad end immediately after installing the addon). Edited November 18, 2015 by DariusAPB
FTS Gecko 24,135 Posted November 18, 2015 Nope. Destroy. Every. Single. Time. Synthesis is never and was never an option for me (you can click the image to find my thoughts on it). It's basically doing exactly what the Reapers wanted from day one, and less than three minutes of vague assurances, sketchy logic and just-trust-me's from the being that created the Reapers in the first place isn't going to convince me otherwise (especially when every single instance of the concept brought up in the series - and there were more than a few - turned into a literal nightmare). I'd find it vaguely plausible that someone might fall for the idea if ME3 was the only game they played in the series (and only then if they didn't touch the DLCs either, Leviathan particularly kicks it to the curb), but anyone with even half a brain who's played through the entire trilogy and has paid even the remotest bit of attention to the ongoing story wouldn't touch that particular ending with Kai Leng's bargepole. Basically, it's a last-minute bait-and-switch. You either assume you can do what you just seconds earlier argued with the Illusive Man was both impossible and a really bad idea (bad), or - with zero understanding of the science involved and despite every single instance of the concept proving to be (literally) a nightmare - you give up the fight and do exactly what the Reapers (a species who are let's say known for their manipulation of lesser minds - it's one of their most powerful weapons, after all) tell you to do and want you to do (bad)... ...or you stick to the plan. Do exactly what every single member of your team, all your friends and allies (yes, EDI included) have repeatedly told you to do without hesitation, not just in ME3 but over the course of the series. You finish the **** fight. But hey - that's just my interpretation. 1 DariusAPB reacted to this
DariusAPB 6,925 Posted November 18, 2015 Dammit, where's Maurauder shields! Destroy is a death sentence for way too many beings, it makes Legion's sacrifice and the evolution of the Geth worthless, it destroys EDI and again... all the biotics. Miranda. Jack. Kaiden if you are a member of the 10%... Can't do it. I can't do Blue, control either. That's too much power for one being and power corrupts.
FTS Gecko 24,135 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Destroy is a death sentence for way too many beings, it makes Legion's sacrifice and the evolution of the Geth worthless, it destroys EDI and again... all the biotics. Miranda. Jack. Kaiden if you are a member of the 10%... Woooooooooooah woah woah woah! If the Geth are still around at that point, you're doing it wrong. EDI/ that is a joke /EDI - although I'm struggling to give the Geth the benefit of the doubt at this point, to be honest. ME1 - the Geth sided with the Reapers, fought against organics. Some evidence that there is "more to them" than just killer robots shown. ME2 - the Geth sided with the Reapers, fought against organics. We learn through Legion that their consensus is split - the "Heretics" viewed the Reapers as their gods. Legion says the eth should be free of Reaper influence and allowed to evolve at their own pace, on their own terms, along their own lines. ME3: Nope. Now the Geth have joined the Reapers BY CONSENSUS - i.e. ALL OF THEM. They've flipflopped on their ideals. Totally flipflopped, and are at war with us again. Under duress and threat of Quarian war, maybe - but even so, they've picked their side. Better yet, Legion now WANTS TO FAST-TRACK HIS ENTIRE SPECIES EVOLUTION BY CO-OPTING REAPER CODE. Where did the Legion of ME2 go? What have you done with him? Oh yeah, and remember that trippy (and highly suggestive) journey into the Geth consensus? You know, the one that's riddled with aggressive Reaper code? Remember how you can delete some of the Reaper code to let you through, but you can never fully eliminate it? That it always, inevitably grows back? Yeah, that. As for EDI. She's a member of the team. It's unfortunate but again, she herself tells you to destroy the Reapers no matter the cost. That she would do so herself without hesitation at the cost of her own existence if necessary. That there can be no co-existence or compromise. She knows the score. The very notion of Synthesis that the Catalyst spouses "everyone will survive, and we'll all understand each other, it's flawless, it's perfect, it's the only solution" is little more than a platitude. "Don't worry, do what I say and it'll all be fine. Don't worry about the details, they're not important. Don't mind the man behind the curtain. Everyone will be fine." The Catalyst is cozening you with little more than vague assurances. It's preying on that very human frailty and weakness that Garrus pointed out very early in the game, in fact: "Humans want to save everybody. In this war... that's not going to happen". DariusAPB 6,925 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Nah, means you can buy em again as virtual rather than pissing with actual disks. This said, so far only ME1 is Backward compat. Edited November 20, 2015 by DariusAPB
