Advanced Gunnery: Squadron Attacks

Pretty sure I'm correct in this, just want to run it by youse guys:

As second player, playing Advanced Gunnery, you can take both shots against all the squadrons in one arc, shooting at each one twice, right?

It's rare, but i've had it come in useful in a couple of situations. One i remember is final turn of game, with an Advanced Gunnery VSD II with only an untouched Whale at long range to target. 2 x 3 red dice wasn't going to kill it, so i went for a double tap anti-squadron fire as that had a chance to net me some points. Worked too.

Groovy, thanks. Thought so, just wanted a second opinion to make sure I'm not crazy, cause I've never actually seen it done before.

Only reason to do it is if you have NOTHING else to shoot at.

 

Or if you're trying to clean a cloud of TIEs off of your bombers.

I don't know. . . If I can instead take shots at a ship that could kill it, I will go with that.

I do believe you have to shoot at those squadrons once, and then shoot at them again since the two are seperate shots. You cannot shoot at each squadron twice before going to the next one.

 

In reality it would not make a lot of difference whether you would shoot twice at each squadron before you go on to the next, but when determining when to use your concentrate fire command, it could make a difference.

 

Of course you cannot add the dice together from both shots (especially against characters).

It's entirely situational, and not a situation you often encounter. But given the choice between freeing up four B-wings to take their anti-ship shots or taking two battery shots out Yavaris' side arc, for example, I'm going to take the squadron shot every time.

So, just for the record, I was asking this for a specific build I was working for a tournament yesterday, and it worked fantastically. Basically trying to honeydick Imperials into taking it so I can mow down hordes of TIEs with AS shots.

I had 3xAF2 with only carrier upgrades, 4 A-wings and 6 B-wings. My imperial opponent (VVG + giant ass Rhymer ball) took one look at my objectives, looked at his VSD, looked at my conga line, snickered to himself (probably), and threw down AG.

His fighters could not repel firepower of that magnitude. You would be amazed how fast a cloud of TIE fighters turns into so much space wreckage under double single-die anti-squadron shots and a pile of Flight Controller A's and B's.
