The single most expensive ship (non epic)

Recommended Posts

Well since we already got a thread on highest possible squadron point cost for a single ship. Lets look at the package retail price.

all values are in USD*

Well the obviously most expensive would be the Rebels ship Ghost. However that is kind of funny because that is closer to a 2 ship pack instead of a single ship pack. Also it is not out yet. So far here it the conventional pricing system. As you can tell this is mostly based on model instead of everything else because that would obviously be the highest factor in production expenses.

~$40 Starter Set X-wing Core X-wing TFA Core, Most Wanted

Okay the Most wanted is not a real starter set it is only an expansion, but they both share a commonality of 3 small ships (2 of one and 1 different ship) so as far as model count and price they are the same. You only need 1 of either of these packs but two does help out a little in terms of selection and choice.

~$15 small ship blister

The cheapest model in terms of individual sale. However you can buy multiples for standard play depending on the type of model and their squadron point value. Now like the entire product line not all small models are competitive and a must buy. Some you can ignore completely (especially if you are not playing a certain faction) such as the TIE bomber. Some models have a high point cost and not much utility in builds you never need more than one such as the E-wing which fits that example. However some have such a small point cost and stats are so low that 1 would never cut it, if you are getting a Z-95 Headhunter you want to start out with two of those not just 1. Most packs come with 3-6 pilot cards and a selection of upgrade cards that can be attached to the ship.

~$20 larger small ship blister

Ho-ray for contradictions in labels. So when the Star Viper model came out it was significantly larger than the other small ships and the blister was slightly larger. Now there are more of these type of packs even though they all use the same base the $15 small ships. Due to the model bulk the additional $5 is justifiable. Some of the model is literally 3 times the volume. The small selection of these type of ship packs means that in order to be a good sale many of them have been given upgrade cards that is a must for a faction (i.e. Autothrusters, TLT) so ther is almost a mandatory purchase from this selection. The fact that these upgrades also come in doubles is a testament that they are to also boost other models not just themselves.

~$30 2 ship ace pack

2 small ships for $30 which is the same as 2 $15 small ship packs so this pricing is pretty obvious. However often that these packs are used to boost up a model that has been lacking so in addition to the aces pack you generally want to have the regular small ship expansion packs with it. So while alone it is $30 you would probably be paying $60 to get full value but that still is normal for 4 ships. They also have upgrades calculated that two aces packs can fully outfit a 100 point list of a single model type.

~$30 Large ship expansion pack.

since they are much bigger they obviously have a higher price tag. The main thing is though that many of these packs have necessary upgrades and although they only have 4 pilot cards they have nearly twice as much upgrade cards to include many duplicates. There's at least 1 mandatory purchase from this section. Basically these ships count for two and the expansion pack confirms that.

~$40 Larger ship expansion pack.

So the model is obviously larger but not by much. However it keeps with the same convention of doubiling the price of the small expansion pack. So two larger small ship expansion packs equal the same cost as one of these larger ship expansion pack.

Now on the special categories because they don't fit in any type of other pricing category however their individual models can be broken up int a pattern.

First lets start with the Ghost, which is 1 Larger ship and 1 small ship. That is priced at ~$50.

Next the Rebel transport which comes with an X-wing. So one lesser huge ship w/small is ~$60

The Gozanti which is 1 lesser huge ship w/ 2 small ships is priced at ~$70

The Tantive IV has a single huge ship and that is priced at ~$90

The Raider has a huge ship w/ a small ship and that is priced at ~$100.

So using all this data this is the standard pricing convention.

  • singe small ship pack $15
  • two small ship pack $30
  • three small ship pack $40
  • single larger small ship model $20
  • single Large ship pack $30
  • single Larger ship pack $40
  • Lesser huge ship $50
  • Huge ship $90
  • *Additional small ship $10(per ship, *must be attached to a Large or Huge ship pack)

What about this- what is the ship (with upgrades) that is the absolute most expensive ($ MSRP) to put together?

So for example, take your typical fat Han

Han Solo, Engine Upgrade (yt-1300 expansion: $30)

Predator (TIE Defender Expansion: $15)

C-3PO, R2-D2 (CR-90 Expansion: $90)

Total: $135

Or what about the Palpatank?

Kenkirk, Ysarde (Decimator expansion $30)

Predator (TIE Defender Expansion: $15)

Palpatine (Raider expansion $100)

Engine Upgrade (yt-1300 expansion: $30)

Total $175

With useable upgrades or is stuff that can't be used also allowed?

Because any crew carrrying ship can be made hideously more expensive by adding a Targeting Coordinator.

Decimator

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)
Opportunist (4)
Extra Munitions (2)
Emperor Palpatine (8)
Targeting Coordinator (4)
Proximity Mines (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)

VT-49 pack
Imperial Aces pack
K-Wing / Punisher pack
Raider pack
CR-90 pack
Agressor / Slave 1 pack
Hound's Tooth / Falcon pack

That pushes is over the $200 mark using Cool Stuff Inc prices.

If we're talking about one you can actually use, the Sith Lords must be close.

Shuttle with Emperor, Fell in Royal Guard Interceptor, Vader with engine.

You need

Raider

Shuttle

Tie Interceptor

Tie Advanced

Imperial Aces

Falcon

Starviper

That's about US$240 RRP.

Only worrying thing is that I can already field that list...

Saboteur (2)
Tactician (2)
Ion Projector (2)

Patrol Leader (40)
Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6)
Emperor Palpatine (8)
Bombardier (1)
Proximity Mines (3)
Countermeasures (3)

Lambda 29.95
TIE Punisher 19.95
M3A 14.95
Raider 99.95
K-Wing 19.95
Phantom 14.95
B-Wing 14.95
Slave 1 29.95
HWK 14.95
Decimator 39.95
YT2400 29.95
Hound's Tooth 39.95

369.40, going by the prices on the FFG store.
The Decimator alone is 219 dollar.

With complete lists the balance would swing towards the Rebels, as you'd make a list with Han Solo crew (Tantive), R2-D6 (Transport), Jan Ors (Rebel Aces), Autoblaster Turret, BB-8, etc.

Outer Rim Smuggler (27)
R2-D2 (Crew) (4)
Kyle Katarn (3)
Experimental Interface (3)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
Extra Munitions (2)
Bomb Loadout (0)
BB-8 (2)
Proximity Mines (3)

Blackmoon Squadron Pilot (29)
Sensor Jammer (4)
R2-D6 (1)
Intimidation (2)

Total: 100

K-Wing, Most Wanted, E-Wing, Y-Wing, Falcon, Tantive, Transport, Salev 1, Rebel Aces, etc
This would easily push you over the $400 mark.
