Chucknuckle 2,811 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) Agreed. The only problem is, I think, that even without Bomber, A Wings do just as much damage to capital ships because the black dice is so much more reliable. If A Wings had a red dice as well, everything would balance out just fine. As it is, A Wings hit enemy ships just as hard. They don't have Escort, but with speed 5 they can actually intercept the enemy, and with their Counter ability they do very well against enemy fighters. So they kind of mirror the X Wing in a lot of ways, and pretty much push them out of the picture. I think just changing that black dice to a red would be good. EDIT: The other consideration being that X Wings can cause crits, where A Wings can't. Edited October 28, 2015 by Chucknuckle
Truthiness 5,696 Posted October 29, 2015 Yeah, the X-Wing's red die is a bit of a problem. I would be perfectly happy with a blue die. Same odds as an A-Wing to score damage, while still only having 25% chance at a crit and maintaining the same average damage since there is no double damage. I would also happily pay 14 or maybe even 15 if that meant they had a black die, but then I would worry about the role of Y-Wings. As it stands I only really use Wedge as far as X-Wings go now. Drasnighta 26,831 Posted October 29, 2015 I am certainly considering using 10 X-Wing Squadrons alongside my Triple Nebulons... Mostly because they are able to stand to fight alone a fair bit... And it doesn't matter if its heavy Enemy Squadron, or Light Enemy Squadron... It seems like the Ultimate Compromise to me. 1 Reiryc reacted to this

EDIT: The other consideration being that X Wings can cause crits, where A Wings can't. I do think A's are just a bit undercosted while X's a bit over (looking at you, useless ESCORT keyword!). Even if they cost the exact same amount, A's are just plain better from the speed (at least for wave 1). With Jan Ors and H6's coming into the mix, we may finally see a sensible rebel combo outside of "Here's a big pile o Y's" or "big pile of B's". Now, the blue die bomber x-wing.... that would be something! PLEASE make this an official option FFG!
Squark 2,555 Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) Yes, escort on X-wing's wasn't very useful in wave 1 because intercepting was superior to escorting. But like you said, with Intel allowing ships to bypass Interceptors and a couple of serious rebel threats that really need to be escorted like Jan and the Scurg, that isn't going to be the case much longer, so I really don't see the X-wing needing any help. mmimzie 0 Posted October 29, 2015 Yeah A's definitly seem like one of the stronger all around. It's the jack of all trades of all the squadrons. Only comparable fighters would be the TIE fighters which do about the same damage to per point spent, and bring more dice to squad on squad fight. Though A's bring more movement and counter, and with the AOE nature of a lot of anti squad attacks (mmauler, counter, Anti-squad ship attacks) i think the A's might fair alittle better?? Hmm but then again Flight controler and Howler would let the TIEs devastate As as you'd benefit so much from the combined buffs. Hmmmm.... Then though you'd have to look at Yarvis letting A's do more damage to ships. Which proably would be a cheaper upgrade than Howler would be??
