A question on the engineering command

The rules say that when you reveal your command dial and the command is engineering, that if you do not spend it immediately for an engineering token, that you receive engineering points equal to your engineering rating.

 

My question is, do you have to spend those engineering points immediately after receiving them, or do you have until the end of the round to spend them?
