Try switching wingman out for VI and an intel agent.  Rexlar really can clear stress just fine on his own with his MK IIs.

I'd almost rather fully load Echo and drop the third ship completely rather than run Echo so bare bones as that.

98 points almost guarantees you choice of initiative at PS8. Both can be extremely tough to put down while they maintain very high consistent damage. You should be able to focus down any small ship in two-three shots, most large ships in 3-4.

If you're determined to take a third ship, drop Backstabber to an Academy Pilot and use those four points and give Echo VI instead of Wingman, and you can afford a Jammer and Tactician, or FCS and Recon Specialist.

Royal Guard in a Defender?  Yes.

 

Royal Guard in a Bomber?  That makes no sense.  Bombers are for destroying enemy installations and capital ships.  Why would the pilots in charge of escorting the Emperor need a bomber?

If the Emperor wants to have a job don that includes the use of Proton Bombs like an installation to go up - If he needs his loyal Guard for a boarding operation ... there should be appropriate hardware at his personal disposal ... don't you think? I'd love to also have a Guard Bomber

Maybe the Emperor wants a bunch of bombers flying around him, blowing things up while rips out a wicked guitar solo on the bridge of his ship.

I don't know if you know this, but the Emperor has access to TIE Bombers.  If he wants an installation blown up, he can send Bombers.  ALL of the Bombers in fact.

 

Royal Guard pilots are meant to personally defend the Emperor..  Bombers are not for starship defense.

I remember the TIE Defender being so good in the original TIE Fighter game, and Wookieepedia states that it has a profile in X-Wing vs TIE Fighter with the description, "Advanced space superiority fighter. This craft is too powerful to be put in this simulation. Dream on, fanboy!"

 

I loved this ship so much (probably because it was OP) in the games.  When X-Wing miniatures came out, I told everyone who would listen, "I hope they make the TIE Defender for this."  I wanted to love it in this game too.  I wanted to make it work.  Alas, I haven't had any fun with it, yet...

Sorry to hear that's been your experience.  Have you flown Jonas Brothers?  Here is my take on it, it's competitive and a blast to fly:

I've killed brobots with Jonas brothers just go in slow there's no disadvantage to shooting from range three and makes it much harder to arc dodge for them.

Okay yes they get Autothrusters but you have two re-rolls and a focus token so your going to get your share of hits in.

The big weakness of brobots is their predictable they will sloop then do a green so you fly near asteroids or the board edge limiting their options and letting you get shots in.

Last tournament I flew them I went 5 and 1.  Two of those wins were against Brobots.  The Focus token can be used for defense, and the HLC pretty much rolls 4 hits every time thanks to Jonas.  Autothrusters should end up being wasted points for the Brobots, as you'll keep your Defenders in R2.  Furthermore, if done right, you can also block with the Defenders.  This REALLY hurts a Brobots list when both ships cannot focus fire or fire at all.  PS1 ends up being an advantage for the Defender and that nasty white 4K.

Thanks eagletsi111, that's interesting! I run sigmas a lot without acd, but running echo without acd&vi is a bit of a mind-bender for me! Isn't every tlt on the table shooting her up? One evade doesn't get you so much these days...

But two ion cannons sure does sound tasty, i must admit. I'm interested in your build - Why stick with echo at 34 points, rather than juno, vader, jax, or someone like that?

I guess i could go for the middle ground of two deltas with flechette, and drop echo's fcs i suppose...

 

 

Because Echo can go backwards.   Let the TLT's move in for a shot and decloak backwards away from their range, heck I even cloak again if I'm still in one of their ranges.    3 dice versus a cloaked phantom + evade 5 dice.   All the while the delta's close in and ion them to break formation and make them bump, then speed into close range.    Sure they will strip some shields, but you'll kill one Y-wing on the approach,      then when you get to range 1 you focus one and kill another.   Then K-turn through them and let them, bump you and echo comes in like a shark for the kill,  firing with 4 dice at range 3, vs 1 defense.    That's your kill box

 

 

As for the ION's they are there to control big ships, swarms and TLT's.    There are quite a few games when I don't use them, but in the games I need them they work great.     Remember your building a list that can take on all comers, not just one that works great versus certain builds.    This is even more true since now parings are totally random, you never know what you'll face, but you have to be ready
