LED Enhanced VSD

Recommended Posts

I hate to be a detractor but the lights, other than the engines, are far too bright.  It looks like it is decked out for a Chrismas parade.

If I can add to the constructive criticism of this piece, it also gets me a little bit that all the lights are blue, as are the engines.

I'm not sure where the blue engines started (You see it in artwork, too), but in the movies I remember them all being yellow, along with pretty much all the bridge lights etc.

That very small critique aside, the technical work on this is excellent, and I look forward to the completion of the build pics.

I've pondered doing this to my VSDs but finding enough LEDs small enough to pull it off along with a power source that will fit has been problematic.

Star Destroyer engines were a very whitish blue or blueish white. Bridge lights were also either white or very whitish blue.

Exception is the SSD which has an orange-red engine glow and more blueish windows.

As for the lights on the model in the OP, personally I think they are far too blue, but other than that its a job well done :)

Whoops!

Going back and actually *looking* I realize I was thinking of the SSD's engine glow from ESB.

Excellent, looks great.

You'd probably find it looks quite different under normal lighting conditions. Small LED lighting needs to be pretty bright just to be visible in daylight.

This is true, I took the shots in low light.  I'll post some pictures from a game I will play tomorrow at the store.

@jasonkc25 - the link under the first two pics will lead you to a WIP I am working on.

I'll post all the items needed there.  but in a nutshell...

9 LEDs with wire

Aluminum tubing

fiber optic

Power switch

battery with housing

I suppose I could change the colors, But I like the blue contrast... I'll have to think about the color, as of right now I use 7 LEDs to power the engines and 2 to power the other lighting. So changing the colors will not be a problem on the new VSD.  I cant wait to mod the ISD, all of that room in side....
