Your First List?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious as to what the first list everyone flew was when they actually went to play at their FLGS after they had played a few rounds of the core set against family and friends...also how they got it. Did you just buy your favorite iconic SW ships first or did you specifically buy "that one list" because you wanted to play it.

Mine was Buzzsaw Whisper + 3 Alpha Squadron Interceptors...I think I bought Slave 1 first because I love Mandalorians but lurking on the forums I saw a list that used interceptors and a phantom and I was sold. Ran to the store with my Gunner and VI cards in my pocket - bought the 4 ships I needed and played 3 league matches that night. Lucky for me I already had Gunner and VI from the Slave 1 expansion or I would have had to run something silly like Whisper with Marksmanship.

Have at it!

Pretty sure mine had an A-Wing (this was before Rebel Aces came out), a B-Wing, a Y-Wing, and an X-Wing, but I don't remember what pilots. Dutch was probably one of them, and Garven might have been the X-Wing.

At the time the meta was two pancakes, or BBBB, or BBYY, or TIE swarm. I gravitated eventually to the BBYY.

Howlrunner with Swarm Tactics, Backstabber, Dark Curse, and 4 Academy Pilots.

When I started to get into X-wing this year I found the thread with the various list archetypes and once I found out that TIE swarms were a thing that was it.  I bought a second core set and some expansions and it was off to the races.

Wedge (predator)

Keyan (V.I sensors)

los tres banditos

actually did really well with these guys, even against phantoms :)

then Wave 5 came out and the game became stale <_<

after that, I finally bashed heads against the uninspiried, derivitive, fun-destroyed, whisper + deci or fat han garbage until I came up with

Luke (v.i, r3-a2, EU)

Blue squadron (b/e mod, tactician) x 2

Proto (Refit)

actually won a store championship with that :D

now I'm flying Jake, a greenie, and 3 protos; Xizor, a blacksun ace and 3 pirates or Redline, Zeta ace, and 3 obsidians

note that I havn't gone too far from my first list ever; just changed factions

My first list, back at the outset of Wave 5, was a Rebel squad with the only ships I had (not having enough Imperial ones to make 100pts). It was Luke (R2-D2 because theme, and possibly some other stuff), Tycho (can't remember his upgrades beyond Push the Limit), and Dutch (Ion Cannon and R5-D8). It...did not go well.

When the Imperials hit the table, I flew Rexler Brath (cementing him and the Defender as firm favourites), Carnor Jax, Howlrunner and an Academy TIE. It was closer, but I still lost.

My first squad must have been... Kyle Katarn in the HWK and a gaggle of Z-95's (i think I was going for a Scummy, smuggler-themed list- this was long before Scum and Villainy came out of course). That was a rough time- most of my early games ended with my Z's wiped out and Kyle scrambling across the board, ioning his pursuers.

This was around the time that Imperial Aces came out, so I grabbed 2 and made a four-interceptor squad for my second list. That did about as well as you might expect

Never got the original core set, a friend gave me all the stuff from his second core set to get me started, so I didn't even have an X-wing to start with. I don't remember the very first 100p list I flew, but my first few ships included three A-wings because I'm a real sucker for them and it was back during Wave 2. My first proper list that I actually settled on was

Tycho

- PtL

- Homing Missiles

- Stealth Device

Arvel

- Homing Missiles

- Stealth Device

Greenie

- PtL

- Homing Missiles

- Stealth Device

/98p

Arvel was the weak link due to the lack of Focus-Evade, but I managed fairly well with the list up until Wave 4. When the Phantoms showed up I took a break to wait for Rebel Aces to show up with my long awaited buffs. Dat alpha strike though. ;)

Been known as the "A-wing guy" around here and appropriately nicknamed "Tycho"

2 named Tie Defenders with Predator, Concussion Missile, Engine Upgrade & Ion Cannon. Yeah it sucked but I did beat an E-Wing / 4 Z-95 list & ALMOST beat Firespray / Phantom list. It was still fun though.

My first list was a supremely terrible Hobbie, Roark, Y-wing, Y-wing... thing that I refuse to acknowledge as one of mine. I even lost to a guy running 3 shuttles at my first tournament. It's since evolved into a fairly decent casual list with Dutch, Hobbie, Cracken and Roark that I use to "go easy" on newer players, but the original version... it was terrible.

You know what the worst thing is... When you play a new player, and you give them your C list and they play meta and the game is a struggle... You're just like "omfg I didn't have to take it easy on you..." and then you feel stupid and they're like "this guy sucks..."

The only appropriate response is to say "Let's go again", then fight fire with fire by going meta yourself. You then re-establish dominace by crushing all of their hopes and dreams in one fell swoop!

I jest, of course.

I've been playing since wave 2 with friends but the game never picked up in the FLGS where I live, so it is only this year that I decided to travel to participate in tournaments.

So, my first list against someone other than a firend is:

Soontir Fel+PtL+Targetting Computer

Colonel Vessery+Veteran Instinct

Scimitar Bomber

Scimitar Bomber

It was this year at a Store Championship (during the Wave 5 Phantom and turrets everywhere meta) and I finished first.

The first time I played at my FLGS was for my very first tournament actually. The local league was established after that event and we now play there once a week. I flew the following:

Chewbacca (Determination, Millenium Falcon)

Biggs (R2-F2, Stealth Device)

Dagger

99 points

Not a very good list, but the tournament was a lot of fun. The Falcon is my favorite ship, by far, and Chewie my favorite pilot too (I think I can hear ficklegreendice and ParaGoomba going "ugh!"... hehe). Still, I play all factions/ships and greatly enjoy the diversity and challenges of the game.
