Anti-TLT Scum

Recommended Posts

I've been toying with lists that can survive against the undefeated 4x TLT Thugs who have been terrorizing my weekly league of late.

This is my latest idea, though it has not yet flown. Curious what people think, and if it will have any success against anything else out there right now.

IG-88C

Sensor Jammer

Autothrusters

Guri

Virago

Sensor Jammer

Autothrusters

Laetin A'shera

Stealth Device

Last week I ran two Kihraxzes in place of IG-88, and a Lone Wolf on Guri. It went 2-0, losing one Kihraxz on the night, facing an overloaded Punisher with Interceptor support in one game, and a mix of TIE Fighters and Interceptors in the second game.

Guri & IG88 are sad to miss out on their EPTs.  Since Laetin offers almost nothing in this list except being a mild annoyance, I wouldn't bother (unless you want to make room to put some kind of cannon on him).

Personally, I would focus on buffing Guri & IG88, since they are far more effective and can be built to be extremely difficult for TLTs to harm:

IG88B w/ predator, sensor jammer, mangler, autothrusters = 49

Guri w/ lone wolf, virago, sensor jammer & autothrusters = 39

Binayre Pirate = 12

100

Unfortunately, the Binayre pirate is free points for most twin laser lists, but they won't be able to punch through Guri or IG88's defenses!  At the very least, it will be a blocker against other lists, running alongside the aggressor.  Meanwhile your two robots will be quite effective against a variety of other lists.  Ultimately, you might be better off just running a pair of aggressors with a similar loadout to IG88B there, but Guri can be fun and its a bit different.

Do you own 2 IGs? Because if so, Brobots of most flavours have it pretty easy vs the 4tlt setups getting around. Sensor jammer, 3agi and ATs definitely neuter tlts, although personally I would probably drop sensor jammer in favour of FCS/AdvSen purely to maintain effectiveness against other lists, but ymmv.

This should wreck most TLT swarms if you can minimize the number of TLTs that can focus fire.

IG-88B (36)

Predator (3)

Sensor Jammer (4)

"Mangler" Cannon (4)

Inertial Dampeners (1)

Autothrusters (2)

IG-88C (36)

Predator (3)

Sensor Jammer (4)

"Mangler" Cannon (4)

Inertial Dampeners (1)

Autothrusters (2)

Total: 100

Handles TLT quite well, and is able to do well against all varieties of lists out there.  I've been successful, as with any IG2000 list, you must practice, practice, practice, they are a skill based ship to pilot.

All ships require skill to use.  Some just different than others.

Brobots with Autothrusters should be pretty fine against 4Y TLT as people already stated.

Elite Dangerous (100)

Talonbane Cobra — Kihraxz Fighter 28

Push the Limit 3

Glitterstim 2

Engine Upgrade 4

Ship Total: 37

Guri — StarViper 30

Push the Limit 3

Fire-Control System 2

Autothrusters 2

Virago 1

Ship Total: 38

N'Dru Suhlak — Z-95 Headhunter 17

Lone Wolf 2

Cluster Missiles 4

Glitterstim 2

Ship Total: 25

This here is pretty nasty too. You need to go full throttle at them just keeping Suhlak away from the rest of your guys. Cobras Pilot talent will not help him at range 3, but at Range 1 he is the Grim reaper for Y-Wings. They can't ignore the Z-95 and it is critical that you get Glitterstimmed cluster missiles off. This has reasonable chances to oneshot a Y-Wing. So they need to focus the Z-95. That gives Cobra the time to pick someone off or at least to close to R1 of some of them to mitigate damage and inflict more himself. Your last ship alive will be probably Guri (nobody in his mind would focus him first being the one with AT and the least threatening Firepower at first). And that's exactly what you want since he can pretty much outfight 2 TLT Y-Wings. Stick to one hammering him while arc dodging the other. Autothrusters should assure survival while you bring them down.

For me this works pretty well against TLT lists and is still a nice matchup for other lists.

In my limited experience against TLTs, taking morenred dice and more hull tilts the game against them.

2 Y-wings, a Kihraxz, and a YV-666 is tougher than them so it should win that war of attrition most of the time.

Glitterstimmed cluster missiles on N'dru just wrecks things. If you get lucky you can 1 shot a Y-wing

Yup. As seen in my list. I like Suhlak for 25 points. He is basically a heat-seeking Missile himself. You throw him at something and that will die pretty reliably. He will also go down in the proceds but it's often worth it. The rest of your list needs to have some staying power and be able to finish the job though. Notably you want stuff that is efficient at Range 3 so he can go in while others stay away until he dies. (Hence Cobra in my list, he has 4 evade at R3 it there is no secondaries firing at him). I have yet to try TLT HWKs or Y-Wings with Suhlak for myself. What i have done is run him with a few Scyks with Manglers. They soften up a Target, Suhlak closes in and Obliterates it.

Before Glitterstim was out i often gave him a a Dead man's switch and played him at 21 points. You send him, and whatever they do at some point you will inflict damage. One game my opponent flew Tarn plus Zs and decided to ignore Suhlak. He shot down Mison plus a Z-95 on his own. The rest of his squad was chasing Kath and Kavil. That didnt go so well for him i can tell you!

Firesprays with Flight Instructors should do well.

Anything which is either permanent or lasts the whole turn is a good idea. I was considering Countermeasures/Glitterstim as a combination on a Firespray, giving you one turn of "I am a leaf on the wind", but adding a Flight Instructor would be quite rude. I approve...

I built a list using TLTs that I thought should have answers to other TLTs and to lists that are good vs them.

Kavil (TLT, Predator, unhinged astromech)

Guri (Autothrusters, Sensor Jammer)

Palob (TLT, recon specialist)

Just came third at a tournament (and I usually come last, or very near it) with this list. It's only got two TLTs, but they're highly accurate. With Palob stripping a token off you and with a focus for each shot, and with Kavil shooting first with 4 dice and predator (and probably a focus) they do 4 damage a turn to everything, and then Guri is there as a counter to TLTs, given that she can get into range 1, and with her sensor jammer taking a hit away from each attack (especially if Palob has nicked their focus token) and flipping a blank into evade from her ATs (an probably having 2 focus tokens to play with). It did great against a range of lists: RAC/Fel, Brobots, TIE advanced. It lost to a rebel hand-off crew (Chewie, Kyle and Airen) who could target lock everyone up and then pass the focus after Palob had a chance to steal. I think luck played it's part in it (Chewie made every single "guess 1 with 3po" he tried to cut down on the TLTs getting damage through, every attack rolled all hits) but there's a certain amount of that being built into the list anyway. Corran Horn caused me problems after he survived a full round of focus firing on him, and the next few rounds of attacks whiffed, but then pushed it too far to try to get away from me and ended up flying off the board. If he'd stayed on I think he would have given my opponent the game. Although, I think if I'd had just average dice rolls to begin with he wouldn't have been there to cause me the problems he did and I'd have been able to deal with the rest of the list easily enough, but you take the wins however you get them.

Cheerio,

Ben

After the advice in this thread, I'm currently waffling between two brobot lists with Sensor Jammer and Autothrusters

both have C with Lone Wolf and HLC

B is either Mangler+Predator or HLC and no EPT. leaning toward MangerPred...
