[PbP] Shadows of the Future IC

Recommended Posts

That's prettier, thank you :) the Advantage:

Firan and Xan lay in wait a short distance from the campsite, hoping for an animal...and having absolutely no luck. All that the duo could think about was all this rain, making it impossible to see—let alone to hunt—and how they were ever going to face coming back to the others with empty handed.

But then, who should come blundering along but a Flesh Raider, traipsing through the forest like an overweight Reek, oblivious to the Mandalorian and the Jedi crouched in the brush just meters away. What looked to be a sack of provisions was slung over his shoulder.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the cool forests, Kovin moves amongst the trees. He looks for the markers of anything that he has learned to be edible in his time on Tython - berries, fruits, insects, such things that one can fills one's stomach on and face the day. He is silent as he pads among the trees, raindrops pattering softly around him as they drop from tree to tree in a gentle rain before hitting the floor. He senses Zelt nearby - the tusk cat is stalking his own prey - but he has an easier goal in mind. He feels the Force around him; it guides his search.

I'm flipping a Destiny point in return.

What does that get me?

Well I'd say that's enough to get food for two PCs. The Advantage will give you a Boost for tomorrow's Survival check, and the Triumph means that you identified a new type of berry that is actually prolific in these parts. It's too dark to forage for more now, but it will reduce the difficulty of tomorrow's Survival check.

Back in camp, Seifer takes shelter as best he can under a tree. Pulls the hood of his cloak up and sits down cross-legged and begins to meditate, drawing on the force to sustain himself to help stretch what little provisions Kovin was able to find.

Well that went well.  I'd like to spend the advantage to find some way to reduce the difficulty of future Resilience checks for going without food.  Perhaps a vision of some sort of edible plant or root?

"We need those supplies far more than that beast." Firan thinks to himself, smirking a little underneath his helmet.  Reaching down to his hip he pulls his pistol from its holster.  Smaller and less cumbersome than his carbine, the pistol would be less likely to draw the raider's attention.

Raising the blaster, he stares down the barrel, trying hard as he can to get a good aim with the pouring rain cascading against his visor.

It's an Easy (PZZOkjQ.png) shot, with 2 setbacks 4QnFeTq.png4QnFeTq.png for the weather. You can take a free Boost die wkeh8HR.png (and use the effects of True Aim talent) for aiming, and another wkeh8HR.png because the target is unaware. Hit + crit = dead Flesh Raider.

As Firan and Xan and then Kovin go off in search of food, Jonas, having little experience with either hunting or foraging, follows Seifer's example. Sitting down and leaning against a tree, he closes his eyes and relaxes. Although his stance is unlike his companion's more traditional meditation position, it more or less serves the same purpose.

Like Seifer, if the Advantage could be spent on some way to reduce future Resilience checks, that would be great indeed.

Xan, seeing that Firan was about to blast the Flesh Raider, decides to make the task unnecessary by seizing the initiative. Reaching out with the Force, he attempts to seize the sack of provisions...

The sack flies off the Raider's back into the brush!

I'll use the Triumph to cause the Raider to flee in fear of the supernatural occurrence.

Ha ha, awesome. Okay...

All told, the provisions carried by the Flesh Raider contained enough nourishment for a single person to eat. There were other, less savory portions of what might be called "food," but it was anyone's guess as to what it might do to one's digestive tract.

I just need either one more Resilience check from one PC to go without food (an Easy Resilience check), or a volunteer to eat the more questionable contents of the sack (roll a Force die).

When Xan and Firan returned with their ill-gotten goods, Maya looked over the questionable portions. Without second thought she devoured the unsavory goods. In response to any looks of disgust, she merely shrugged and said, "I've had worse growing up"

The group of heroes, together with the young tusk cat, sheltered as best as they could against the storm. They shared a meager but nourishing meal, with a couple going hungry and relying on the Force for their energy.

At some point during the night, the torrents slowed to a trickle, and eventually let up all together. The high winds likewise died down.

The sun came early, glistening off the rain-soaked ground. The air was already humid and virtually still.

Sorry for the inconsistent posting these past few days. Had a meeting with the Bobs today. At least my roll will cheer me up.

Maya had eaten some strange and terrible things, but nothing like whatever was currently crawling through her stomach.

I don't know what to do with that advantage. Maybe whatever happened or is happening to Maya, she is still able to retain some dignity?

The crew estimated that they had covered about half the distance, so if they kept the pace up, it'd only be two more days before they were they had the ancient temple in sight and found whatever help the Resistance foresaw there.

Maya found that her innards disagreed strongly with whatever the Flesh Raider had been carrying. Still, she was able to maintain composure even as the worst cramps she'd ever had were threatening to make her stomach explode.

Maya has food poisoning :( she receives 5 wounds, and will have to check her Resilience against the "food" again tomorrow. The Advantage wards off the worst of it though, and she is able to call on her emotional connection to the Force to act coolly and without any sign of actually being sick (no Setback dice for you!).

She may also take 2 Conflict if she'd like to reduce the wounds suffered, and can do this as many times as she'd like, feeding off the pain of the sickness to actually make her stronger but growing closer to the dark side.

The heroes were making good time, through the lightly forested, but easily passable, passage of a long, straight ravine, until they came across an abysmal sight: a Flesh Raider camp. It was situated dead in the middle of the narrow ravine, making getting past it virtually impossible. There were two routes before them: either fight their way through the camp (for it would surely come to a fight) or turn back and face the inhospitable jungle (a Daunting vAUuWiq.pngPZZOkjQ.pngPZZOkjQ.pngPZZOkjQ.png Survival check) above the ravine.

(you can of course try to bypass the camp by sneaking through it, or climbing the ravine walls, but these measures would require inordinately difficulty checks)

There were anywhere from 8-12 Flesh Raiders in the camp, as far as the group could tell from where they were, well inside the tree line and hidden by the shadows cast by the daytime sun.

You are a triksy GM. I'll take 2 conflict. How many wounds does that reduce the penalty by?

Maya lags behind, trying her best to keep her composure, which turned a steady romp into a torturous trek. With every step her insides twisted. Almost as if by instinct she turned her pain and discomfort into a tool. She drew her strength from her pain and frustration. The sudden rush of focus helped alleviate the pain.

When they came upon camp of fleshraders a scrowl flashed across her face. She whispered to the others "So that's where they have been making their camp. Come on we can take them."

"There certainly appear to be few options but to go through the camp.  Perhaps we could draw them away and sneak through? A fire could possibly draw their attention?"  Seifer strokes his goatee as he muses over the groups options.

"Well me and Zelt's usual technique for dealing with Flesh Raiders involves getting as far away from them as possible, but that may prove problematic. Then again your fancy laser swords could be quite good at dealing with them. I could try to guide us around, but it might be hard - and if I exhaust myself now I'll be useless for tomorrow, when I might have a better chance. It all depends on what you want to do."

A pall befalls Maya's visage. She looked to Kovin for support. "These savages have defiled nature for long enough. With everyone's help we can take them. Come on. We won't have a better chance"
