awayputurwpn 7,720 Posted March 1, 2016 Xan hurled himself forward, feinting high to direct his opponent's gaze upwards, and then suddenly reversing into a classic Niman lunge: Xan's lightsaber clashed on the almost-ethereal blade that the dark side spirit was wielding, and sparks flew. In the light of this engagement, Xan's fear melted into a burning courage. His attack also galvanized his friends to fight through their fear. The shade has parried Xan's attack, but some damage has got through. NPC is up next...
awayputurwpn 7,720 Posted March 1, 2016 I'll need another Fear check from Maya and Seifer, now that the shade has engaged you as well. Average difficulty please (two purples); and you may use either Cool or Discipline. Basically, the first time you engage with a shade in this encounter, you'll have to make a fear check...so it's just Maya and Seifer for now to roll the fear checks. The shade moved in a liquid way, and in doing so interposed itself between Maya, Xan, and Seifer. Making a sudden fluid gesture, it disengaged with Xan's blade and swept its lightsaber in a wide arc, catching Seifer in its path. Attacking Seifer: 3eP+1eB+2eD+5eS 2 successes, 1 threat Seifer takes 8 damage, Breach 1. For the Threat: The shade had revealed its fighting style very well to the Jedi: it was using classic Form I moves, creating vicious arcs meant to catch multiple opponents in their wake. Staying close to each other meant giving the shade more targets to hit, and making his job easier. Next PC please! Don't forget the Boost die from Xan. kaosoe 7,573 Posted March 1, 2016 As the shades advanced, Maya grew colder. Maya's fear of abandonment threatened to overcome her completely. The more afraid she became, the more these things fed and the more pressing their presence became. These creatures truly were manifestations of the Darkside. Fear Check: 1eP+2eA+1eS+2eD 1 failure, 1 advantage But such tactics were not unknown to the young Togruta. She could make use of her own fear. I will use that Advantage to recover 1 strain. 1 awayputurwpn reacted to this
Silver Crane 199 Posted March 2, 2016 (edited) I'd like to parry to reduce that damage from 8 to 3, taking 3 Strain in the process. Also Fear check (Cool): 1eA+1eP+1eB+2eD 1 failure, 2 advantage I grabbed the boost since it wasn't used above. I''d like to recover 2 strain from my advantage. "Sithspit," Seifer excaimed a the shade's blade grazed him even with his parry. Their skill and presence made the Guardian more apprehensive. Revanchist7 459 Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) "They're too close together!" Firan thinks to himself, raising his carbine up towards the shades attacking his companions, "Too risky." Altering his gaze towards the still distant remaining shade, partially visible through the enhanced vision of his electrobinocular scope, he smirks underneath his helmet, "That'll do." "I don't care what it is," He says, muffled by the dark distortion in the room, "If you put enough blaster bolts into something, sooner or later it's gonna die!" Manuever to draw carbine, Action to attack. Binoculars remove one setback, if I'm reading them correctly, but I still have one from the earlier fear check Carbine justice: 2eP+2eA+2eC+3eS 1 failure, 1 threat, 1 Triumph, 1 Despair That is one hell of a roll! awayputurwpn 7,720 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) Unfortunately for Firan, his fear caused him to see an attacker where there was none. Shouting a sudden battle cry, he loosed a powerful volley of blasts into the wispy darkness above him. With a muted CRACK, large pieces of the ceiling came hurtling down out of the darkness. The chunks of ornamental stone landed atop Jonas and the nearest shade with a dull THUD, erupting in a huge dust cloud, and blocking the rest of the room off from the group, separating them—at least momentarily—from the shades.I need an Average Athletics check from Jonas.Next PC please! The last two NPC turns have been spent trying to get through the impromptu wall. The shades were blocked from view, and the only indication that they were moving on the other side of the rubble was the ambient glow of their red lightsabers, which was steadily growing brighter.Meanwhile, Jonas' fate was uncertain as the dust was still settling... FCastor 81 Posted March 9, 2016 As the ceiling comes crashing down, Jonas reacts almost on instinct and tries to roll out of the way of the falling debris, reaching out to the Force to lend him its support. But once again it is the Dark Side that answers, a fact that perplexes him somewhat even though this is hardly the time to think on it further. "Must be this place," is the only answer and explanation he mutters to himself. awayputurwpn 7,720 Posted March 9, 2016 Jonas was just done muttering when he was struck by a medium-sized piece of ceiling. Jonas receives 8 damage (soak applies) and 10 strain (soak does not apply). He is also disoriented for two rounds, adding another setback die to any actions he takes. Shade athletics check: 3eA+2eD+1eS 2 successes, 2 threat: One of the shades is out of the fight (just for the benefit of your knowledge; you can't actually see it right now). Jonas struggled to remain on his feet, his vision blurring a little. He could feel a slight trickle of blood running down the back of his head. awayputurwpn 7,720 Posted March 17, 2016 "Well enough," Jonas calls out, shaking his head to chase the dizziess away.He fails. Reaffirming his grasp on his lightsaber he looks around, trying to reorient himself. Are any of the Shades close enough for him to attack after the ceiling collapse? So sorry, I didn't realize we were waiting on me!! Hmm...tell you what, you can choose which side of the collapse you are on. If you are on the inside (separated from your allies), you will be engaged with two of the shades. If you're on the outside (with your allies), you'll have to somehow get over the collapsed ceiling portions before you are in range. The debris are high enough that they block clear line of sight from either direction. Either way, it'll take a Hard Athletics or Coordination check to climb or wriggle around the massive debris. Or you could Force leap over it without issue. Or, if you have some way of flying, then it'd just be a regular maneuver. So, your call. You can be engaged with the shades, or engaged with your allies.
FCastor 81 Posted March 19, 2016 Being engaged with my allies is certainly the safer route. However, I did roll 3 Threats and 1 Dark Side. Plus it does feel a bit more dramatic (if this were a movie) for him to be on the side of the Shades, so... Finally focused on his surroundings once again, Jonas takes stock of his predicament. And then he sighs. "I could certainly use a hand here," he calls to his companions as he assumes more defensive fighting stance, at the same time using the Force to bolster himself and his reflexes. "Or more." Wounds 5/17; Strain 9/13; Defense Melee 1, Ranged 0; Soak 4 Abilities: Multiple Opponents, Parry 2 Effects: Guarded Stance, Sense (Control - Upgrade Difficulty) Maneuver: Assume a guarded stance. Jonas gains melee defense +1 and adds 1 Setback die to any combat checks he makes until the end of his next turn. Action: Use Sense (Control - Upgrade Difficulty) and commit 1 Force die. Once per round, when an attack targets Jonas, the difficulty is upgraded once (to make things a little easier, shall we say it is the first attack against him each round?). 1 awayputurwpn reacted to this
awayputurwpn 7,720 Posted March 19, 2016 (edited) Jonas was quickly surrounded by three red blades as the third shade glided through the dishevelled, ancient chairs to join the other two. Their tattered robes were still slowly billowing in the dank, windless air. OOC: I believe it is Seifer's turn! Then we will have a new round. Jonas' words came as little more than muffled utterances to his team. I can't see Jonas right now, correct? Am I still engaged with the shade I struck on my turn? And can I still see him? That shade was crushed under the falling ceiling. And no, you can't see Jonas. But you do know he's on the other side of the collapsed rubble, and you're sure he's still alive. BTW, earlier when describing the collapse, I'd momentarily forgotten about the weird sound-absorbing properties of this area. I included it in the description of the cave-in above, using the word "muted." Edited March 23, 2016 by awayputurwpn 1 kaosoe reacted to this

awayputurwpn 7,720 Posted March 24, 2016 Can I use my advantage to ditch the fear effect? You'll need a Triumph to get rid of the Fear, but I'll allow the 3 Advantage to reduce the difficulty of any checks made to clear the rubble. What do you say? awayputurwpn 7,720 Posted August 2, 2016 (edited) As Kovin touched the Force and began to seek a way through the cave-in, there was a sudden shriek that pierced the muffled tones of the battle. Then, silence followed. But not the muted, soundless void of silence. It was as if someone had lifted sound dampeners from the heroes' ears: they could hear their own steps on the stone floor, and the sound of their clothes rustling as they moved. The rubble was still settling from the collapse, and pebble-sized shards clattered against the larger chunks of stone in a very noticeable way. The reason for this sudden return of sound was not quite known, but another—and more surprising—development was that the dark shades had also, quite suddenly, vanished without a trace. The dining hall was empty save for the furniture, the heroes, and their unintentional redecorating of the room's entrance. The compatriots all made their way into the dark and now-peaceful room, climbing over the collapse and assessing one another's injuries by the light of their glowrods and fusion lantern. Go ahead and roleplay this a bit. Edited August 2, 2016 by awayputurwpn
ColonelCommissar 1,243 Posted August 2, 2016 "I think I speak for us all," begins Kovin. "When I ask what in the galaxy just happened? One moment those things - whatever they were - were all over us, and the next they'd vanished. Have you ever seen anything like it?" fear is palpable in his eyes, but also more than a little curiosity, as he poses his question to the elder Jedi. Korro Zal 54 Posted August 3, 2016 For a moment, Xan stood there, lightsaber still posed to strike even though his opponent had disappeared. For a moment he was still consumed with fury, his mind still reeling at the edge of a great abyss that he felt perilously close to falling into. There is no emotion, there is peace...he silently recited to himself. That's the Jedi Code, a voice in his head told him. You're no Jedi--they were going to expel you. You're a fraud. The Sith tell lies, a calmer voice pointed out. Don't they? Exhaling slowly, Xan shut down his lightsaber. There were no answers to be found here.
