FFG Galaxy Map PDF/Physical Map Poster

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I was wondering if FFG would ever release the Galaxy Map in PDF form? I know PDFs aren't targeted for this system due to various licensing agreements but a high quality copy of the map on pages 328/329 of the core rule book could be a huge boon of use among groups just by being able to zoom in. If no PDFs of the quality of FFGs map does anyone know of a high quality poster for purchase? I've seen a few online but they are just images and aren't high resolution. Would love to buy a poster of FFGs copy. I'd even go as far as buy multiples of them, esp if they were of Poster and actual map (to write on). What do you think? would you want to own a physical map or PDF/zoomable map?

Thanks for your thoughts!

None of the ones listed in that thread actually fit what Bs4w is really looking for.  I too have been looking, but really do not find anything.  Compared to the option that Paizo provided for the Inner Seas of Golarion for Pathfinder, no one does a good job.  Having access to a plotter means I was able to print that out at 42"x80" (maybe a little longer, cannot remember exact dimensions).  When you put that on the wall and have a question of where something is, anyone can see it.  The problem with the currently provided maps is they do not have great image quality.  You cannot print them out at scale and keep the resolution.  It just gets blurrier as it gets bigger.  Would love to find a good source for a printable version that we could hang, with high quality (or vector) imagery for clarity.

It's better than nothing and it's a place to start.

Osprey, yes, I do use them, because something is always better than nothing.  But if you are looking for a poster option, we haven't really seen anything like that yet (fingers crossed).

Josep, that is a great map (size and clarity wise).  Wonder why your distributor is able to post something like this, but we are not seeing anything like this in the US?

I wish they would put out a map that is a conglomeration of the 3 core rule book maps. Sadly I think the only way to get there is to sacrifice 3 core books to take them apart to get good scans of them with out the loss of the binder side gutter.

I would love some kind of map compedium by FFG to be released, it is a very important resource and is hard to read due to the nature of the book being unable to see some of the systems close to the binding.

with there already being a star wars atlas I don't see that happening. a poster map would be nice though.

Huh, didn't know the 3 books have slightly different maps. I was looking at the F&D one as my next expansion out of EotE so that is nice to hear that it  has travel times. I was looking for a plotter image as well, as I do have access to one at work; guess I need to get a little better at the searching. I'd drop money on a nice poster size as well as a travel map style one; could be epic for an AoR style game too! But I've never seen an RPG map in a travel map style before... so that might be asking a bit much beyond just a nice poster.

I dont see times on the F&D map?

If the F&D CRB is anything like the F&D Beta, then the times aren’t on the map. But there is a table showing various origin and destination points, and how long it takes to travel one way between them.

And strangely, sometimes it takes longer to go one way than it does to go back. I never understood that, but it was confirmed as intentional by the devs.

Could be gravity stuff, pushing away going one way and pulling you in going the other, or somesuch space operafication

For people looking for a map I do heartily recommend the Atlas. It's a great resource, you can also find scans of the maps in that book online.

Although, that being said, the map(s) in the CRB(s) would be very nice to have in print! It's very well made, and it's a tad annoying that it's turned counter clockwise, which makes using it with other maps can become confusing (or at the very least annoying when in the middle of a game).

it would be too small in the other direction. I would love it as a poster....might have to do it my self

TBH I thought FFG could have included a galaxy map as pull out at the back of the book similar to WoTC with the Forgotten Realms 3E.. shame really. The lack of a foldout poster map was my only disappointment of the Core Rules.

Would look awesome as a backdrop behind any GM as we play.

Could have something to do with background gravitational anomalies disrupting the hyperlanes.  It's a lot easier to navigate -away- from a large gravity distortion (think black hole) than towards it.

There is a table in Fly Casual with similar times (differences each way). It basically explains that specific hyperlanes are essentially one way and it is often times more optimal to go one way than the other. I'm away from the book right now, but I'll check it again when I get home.

I'd pay good money for a star-map with enough accuracy, beauty and resolution to mount 1 square meter in size on the wall...

I took this map, http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130325041255/starwars/images/1/10/MainGalaxy.pngand had it printed on a custom print neoprine card playing mat and it turned out pretty fair. I'm certainly taking it to the cons I'm running Star Wars at. It has all of the same planets as FFG in the same locations so it works very well as a substitute. Color-wise it's a little washed out but the original map is more subdued in color than the FFG one so I'm not sure anyone is at fault for that. I mention this here in the hope that FFG will decide to print one of their own and with the vibrant color, detailed graphics and general shape it would be great! I'd suggest they print a few sizes. I favor the 20ish by 15ish size myself very portable and yet nicely sized for the typical con round table. It makes a nice centerpiece for running at a con and it can act as an ad hoc corral for my supplied dice. For some reason players love to roll dice on maps!
