Anyone excited for illicit cloaking device? Your best combos here please!

I instantly liked the idea of the illicit cloaking device when i saw the card spoiled in the Mist Hunter expansion. Not as insanely powerful as the TIE Phantom (because no Advanced cloak and a huge luck factor being applicable), but applicable on a lot of different ships, From Z-95 to HWK, G1A, Khiraxz and Virago.

The one that instantly came to my mind was obviously Virago with 5 Evade while cloaked, and leaving space for a stealth device or Autothrusters. Pretty insane but with a huge luck factor playing a role where in 1/4 of cases your stealth just goes "pop" and you stand there pants down!

Another hilarious thing could be 7 cloaked Z-95 at 98 points. This does not only provide at least some of your Z's with additional layers of defense but also gives you additional mobility on a ship that usually has none.

The same thing goes for the Khiraxz. Good for the ship that besides the discount over the X-Wing it also has access to a cloak. Talonbane at R3 should be hilariously difficult to hit while cloaked!

Your expensive Palob could also benefit greatly from a better defense and mobility bringing him into turret range/out of arc. Yay for cloaked secondary turret ship fun!

An honorable mention is also that you can combine the cloak with Stygium particle accelerator since that one is not Phantom only!

So i wanna know what your ideas for powerful or fun squads/builds with the new cloaking device!

Itsnt it limited? No cloaked z swarm.

Getting to put a cloaked small ship in to any scum list will be a lot of fun.

Still to overwhelmed to think up what crazy combo I will be trying, but I think I will start with the virago.

Ah yeah it has a point (so you have a point too i guess). I forgot that in this game unique cards have a dot in front of the name.

To hell with FFG for their lazy card printing techniques...

If they noted "unique" in the italic text as in other games there is no chance i would not have seen this XD

Not really excited. Unique is a okay; random failure is a turn off

Imo, this thing could've possibly had cobra survive in a meta where you need to have soonts/corran level defenses to last at all, and stygiim could've helped bridge that gap a littlem it still does, only it can also **** you over with a worthless mod because idk why

As is, it's going on high-impact ships that can take care of themselves, such as guru & xizor and palob (orientate DAT ability)

Cloaking Device should be pretty cool with Stygium Particle Accelerator on  a lot of ships. Sure it has a 1/4 chance of bringing your ship out of cloak at the end of round. But it may of just got done saving your hide with the 2 extra evade dice and a free evade token. Also you can always choose the remove stealth token instead of discarding the card if the roll fails. I see a lot of neat tricks and advantages with this card and SPA.

 I'd rather it work like you describe but I don't think that's how the card works. If you roll an eyeball the first thing you do is discard the card, then you can either decloak or discard the cloak token.

"At the end of each round, if you are cloaked, roll 1 attack die. On a <eyeball> result, discard this card, then decloak or discard your cloak token."

What you described would be worded more like this:

 

 
"At the end of each round, if you are cloaked, roll 1 attack die. On a <eyeball> result, discard this card then decloak, or discard your cloak token."

Idk but

Palob

with the Cloak,

Blaster Turret,

Stygium,

Recon specialist,

opportunist

Moldy crow title

Will be fun

Not competitive but fun.

Decloak get into that sweet spot

Get your evade and have a mountain of focus, steal evades or focus and attack hard.

Basically I just want to use that decloak to,close the gap faster

A problem i see with hwk is that range bubble, which some ships can easily avoid

Really I'm just trying to find a different way to use it rather than on the viper

Or maybe on the scyke pilot that gets an evade everytime she evades

Give her a hlc

When things get close, cloak and run away

Never mind she doesn't have illicit slot

Maybe on talabane cobra

No dice. The Scyk doesn't get an illicit slot.

Ya I just noticed that

Easy to miss, how often does one fly or see one in play.

It's to bad, may actually have helped that little ship

I'm hoping Mist Hunter comes with further cloak-related modifications.

(TIE Phantoms, especially low PS, might love to have an alternative to SPA)

Perhaps there'll be some upgrade for additional points (pilot ability or modification) that lets you keep the device. Like... 2 pts for the janky version that could fail at any time because you're stingy, or +3 pts via a modification to have the "legit" device.

Or possibly someone who can, once per round when rolling attack dice, change a focus to a hit. Would work on the cloaking device plus several other upgrades.

I think it would be entertaining to put the ICD on a HWK and skip attacking with it at all. Having the extra green dice will increases it's survivability so that you can make better use of their pilot abilities. You could run Mux with ICD and nothing else, never uncloak, and just trail your targets while your other ships pound in the advantage.

Only issue is potentially losing it every turn.

 

HWKs actually do want to use it, they're not an exceptionally fast ship, and with Range 1-2 abilities they can really use the jump.

I was excited about it until I realized that when it crapped out you lost it. IT would have made N'Dru an annoying little flanker for 23 points..

 

N'Dru Suhlak (17)

Lone Wolf (2)

Cloaking Device (2)

Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)

 

Total: 23

Great minds think alike! I totally wanted to put a cloaking device on N'Dru (and I still might for fun!) until I realized how fluky it is.

Ultimately I get why they were conservative with the design so that something unintended didn't end up OP.
