It's out in the USA on 1st September and in the UK on the 14th September.

I bought the season streaming on Google Play. I think it's also available on iTunes and Amazon. My wife and I have an Apple TV, Google Nexus Player, and a PS3 (which can play videos bought on Amazon). So my house is set for buying these things and watching them on an actual TV. Without commercials.

I do understand the desire to have physical copies of bluray disks. I don't want to imply that there's anything wrong with that. But! If you can't wait, there are options.

First half of Season 1 is like the first season of Star Trek: TNG... It's like, yeah, I'm watching Star Trek, and that's cool but this is really, really difficult to watch... 2nd half of Season 1 really gets good and is important to watch... The premier for S2 was really good, imo... It's not like The Clone Wars which was extremely serious at times and had some pretty mature themes... This is definitely a show aimed at the kids demographic, but that being said, it's still Star Wars and there are still some really good easter eggs and stuff you can get out of the episodes that fill in some blanks here or there between Episodes III and IV...

I agree that it's Star Wars for kids. But that doesn't mean grown-ups can't enjoy it.

 

The only thing I really hate about it is Chopper. He (or rather it) is almost as annoying as a certain Gungan.

I actually enjoyed Chopper.  He has more attitude than R2D2, and his arms just emphasize that.

Chopper's awesome. It's Zeb who kinda bugs me when he is acting like a 14 year old kid instead of a former member of an elite military unit who saw his entire species slaughtered and all but exterminated.

Yes it is worth watching. Great show. I'm enjoying seeing the start of the Rebel alliance and James Earl Jones doing Vader voice again.

I watched Episode 1 of series 1 on YouTube.

Not the best video. Sometimes heads are "off-screen", but I assume that was the uploaders fault.

There's other videos which I will watch when I've got the time.

But having watched Episode 1 my interest went from "meh, stupid kiddy nonsense" to "this looks interesting".

I never expect perfection from a first episode of a first series, but I will say this is better than most first episodes.

Not sure if it's worth buying the series yet.

But it is worth a couple of hours of my time to watch a few more episodes on YouTube.

A bit warning, the next few episodes are a bit rough, though there are still a few good ones in there. (Namely, Rise of the Old Masters).

 

But the series really picks up with Empire Day.

Rebels is a great show! However like people have said, the first episodes/movie has wookiees, and unfortunately they are terribly animated and...and...and god, the sounds they made....it was the holiday special all over again....

I'll be honest, I never even planned on watching an episode. I saw some concept art with a kid and an electric slingshot and was kind of put off by the whole thing. I also think it's kind of natural to rail against Disney and the corporate overlords which probably didn't help. But then I had some self reflection and realized that:

 

1) I've enjoyed the Disney treatment of a lot of titles. The Avengers, other Marvel movie franchises, Daredevil on Netflix, Ultimate Spiderman... Damnit, that mouse knows what I like.

 

2) Some of the more thoughtful posters here, like Crabbock pointed out that they really enjoyed the series.

 

So I gave it a try... and it's... well... good. People are right, it's kind of hit or miss on certain episodes, but with more hits than not. It's set in my favorite time period in Star Wars, that dirty, gritty, worn universe where you can swing a dead cat and not hit 35 Jedi. It really reminds me of West End Games version of Star Wars RPG.

 

Smuggler - Hera

Minor Jedi - Kanan

Outlaw - Zeb

Young Jedi - Ezra

Bounty Hunter - Sabine

Droid - Chopper

 

It is geared toward a younger crowd. It has everything the Prequels were missing. Likeable characters, solid dialog, and light-hearted adventure. In short, it is Star Wars.  It's what I fell in love with at 7 years old. It may not be for everyone, but I think you owe it to yourself to give it a try.  HTH.

Hera: Space Mom

Kanan: Cool Dad

Zeb: Grumpy Uncle

Ezra: The kid

Sabine: Cool older sister (just remember the first two movies)

Chopper: The homicidial maniac

Nah, Zeb is clearly an older brother. Just look at the slapstick shenanigans he and ezra get into.

 

But yeah, the cast is definitely laid out like a family, at least in the first season. that may change as the show progresses. Filoni commented in an interview that in second season Ezra was going to start developing more leadership abilities, and that is not something that the youngest kid in a family would do. You can already see that happening in the season premiere.

 

And yeah, Chopper really is something of a sociopath. If you think of droids as fully self aware life forms he basically commits or tries to commit murder twice.

 

 

The energy slingshot fortunately goes away half way through the first season. Once Ezra.... spoiler stuff.... we don't see it again, and I don't think we will see it again.

I kinda hate it. When did I become a Disney fanboy? How did I become the sort of person to honeymoon at Disneyland? And- apparently- spend my 2 year anniversary there next week.

But the Mouse knows how to create and nurture creativity. They are doing an excellent job showing me more stuff I will enjoy. And... Honestly? Even their newer princess stories are pretty good. I mean: did you see Brave?

I think anyone who both played that RPG and has watched Rebels think the same thing.

It is, but at the same time like the Clone Wars cartoon is has it's darker moments.

That's what I thought too. It did something that IMO the prequels and the clone wars didn't do, it captured the spirit of Star Wars. I enjoyed TCW and don't hate the prequels, but I never felt they captured the feeling I had when I first watched ANH.

One thing Disney seems to do, and is the right thing to do... is allowing people to tell the stories they want and not trying to force some sort of corporate vision on them. For example I've heard that with Superman vs Batman, DC told them 'no jokes' because apparently jokes don't have a place in the DC universe... (which may why I've always made mine marvel) which will IMO destroy the movie. Disney doesn't seem to do things like that.

Honestly, you just need to at who is in charge of Lucasfilm to see why I am convinced that the new movies are in good hands. Just look at the films and directors Kathleen Kennedy has work on/with. And just looking at the talent she is going for, I am extremely excited about the upcoming films. Unlike Marvel with Feige, it feels like Star Wars is a good place to encourage creativity. I mean, there are some very JJ shots in the trailers for Episode VII. Add in Gareth Edwards, Rian Johnson, and Lord and Miller (they made a movie about Legos actually work).

If this show was directed at little kids only it would be on the regular Disney channel, not DisneyXD. I wouldnt let my kids watch that channel unless they were 12+. With beheadings and a high death count with continuous violoence, this is no children's cartoon. Teenagers and adults will like it... if they ACTUALLY watch it. I love it.

I find the current view on TV violence so odd. I grew up on tom & jerry and loony toons, kids shows back then were just as violent as Rebels. Hell, kids in my elementary school were watching R rated scifi & horror movies back in the 80s.
