Thoughts on Keeping the Peace book announcement

Recommended Posts

I have to say I'm looking forward to this one.

I suspect the Armorer will have quite a different theme going for it than the Artisan.  Artisan = make any tech better, where Armorer sounds more like "make my personal tech better."

Am curious to see how Suppress shakes out as well as what makes it different enough from Protect to warrant a separate new power.

What is that creature in the picture? Too big for a kath hound, not a traditional look for a Krayt, anybody know?

I was thinking it's a reek, like the one in AotC arena. I remember them being on/from Saleucami.

EDIT: Although if I'm right that's one !%^%&$!! huge specimen.

Now this is the kind of product announcement that gets me all excited! And release in Q3, even? I hadn't expected it that soon after announcement, this makes it sound like it could be hitting the stores two months from now.

Could be, good call, but is one mother of a reek.

When I saw the cover, I was wondering if the illustrations weren't getting a little more cartoony.

But then every other image in that article was awesome, so I felt better.

I think that's just a trick of the perspective. Since the image is so small, we don't see the nicks and scratches on the armor, so we're left with an impression of bright blue clone trooper armor, and a bright gren lightsber. If you look at the closeup of the character's face at the top of the page, it seems to fit right in with the art style on the other covers.

Looking forward to the adventure ideas it mentioned, since I know there was a worry that FFG was only going to have stories of the "find ancient treasure, escape Empire" variety. I'm ready for my Seven Samurai "protect the defenseless" plots.

I'm happy to bring Whipids to my table as well.

When a problem comes along, you must Whipid. Whiphid good.

All my books are in the other room and I cant be bothered to get up and get them, but isn't this the FFG premiere for the Iktotchi, too?

I am really looking forward for F&D (I have bought all the EotE and AoR books), but I am not so keen on armor wearing jedi's. I havent seen Ep I-III as much as the "real" Star Wars movies, but I dont recall seeing any of the jedi's (or sith's) wearing any armor - not even in the big battles. I know Disney "gave" Obi-Wan and Anakin some armor pieces in the animated series, but I like Lucas vision much better - Jedi's want to be fast and agile - not being slowed down with armor.

As a rpg mechanic I am sure this will work good and be balanced.

Good question, in the prequel the war was still at it's infancy, until the last movie, and yes it did not show any Jedi wearing it, but it did not mean that the skills of the Jedi hadn't improved to the point that some felt they didn't need it and the war was getting close to the end, with that being said, there are gaps in the timeline that there could have been armor and Disney filled in those gaps. In the OT there were not many Jedi as they were hiding and Jedi armor would stand out. Vader although his suit is for life support, still had it armored as evidenced by the fact Luke hit him at least once on the shoulder and all it did was spark, if there was no armor there Vader could have had a chunk taken out of his shoulder. On top of that, Star Wars had a very deep Samurai influence, and if you watch a Samurai movie you will not see them wearing armor much until they went into big organized battles, so the armor was there. Did the armor restrict mobility? Yep and that is why it was used sparingly or minimally if you like. Ultimately, yes there was armor in the OT and vader wore it.

On the face of it, things look good. But I certainly hope that it deals with Guardians as combat leaders specifically. That's an important role that sets them apart from your standard Jedi.

I'm disappointed that new Lightsaber styles/additions are not highlighted. In addition, what is the Warden? Seems like Career-Creep from the Sentinel and not exactly a Guardian focus...

At a glance, warden sounds like a combination Shadow and Aggressor with some scathing tirade thrown in. It's like a spec that was added to help round out the guardian. Nearly all career books include at least one spec that steps outside of the bounds of the original concept to round out the career. They've been pretty well balanced and hardly ever overshadow a spec more focused in the area.

They did mention a War Leader as a specialization. I would think (without being snarky) that would include leadership talents.
