Toughest in the Universe was originally a 3 of but defensively it has helped me many times and i upped it to 4.Dragon lifter baits blocks and against fast decks i sometimes side in turn thruster for smashers. T2 of Wheel Kick, Dragon Lifter, Turn Thruster is pretty damaging. Suggestions appreciated, deck has held up pretty well in my meta, but taking it apart to try out an astrid build so wanted to list/post before i did. LordAggro 0 Posted September 26, 2009 Looks good to me; we've been running Paul for a bit here, and my buddy caught on to the Wheel Kick/The Boot --> Dragon Lifter combosauce. How are your attack draws treating you? I know running 14 attacks is way too slow a pace for my meta (I run 16-18 attacks in just about every deck I make, and I just barely draw into them enough...). Also, I've had some bad experiences with Phoenix Smasher (i.e. drawing into too few Stuns for them to be of any use), so I wouldn't go over 2. I'd main-deck Turn Thruster; IMHO, it's even more important than Phoenix Smasher, because it goes off faster for pretty comparable damage. Also, no Nursing a Grudge or From the Mouse, Humility for recursion shenanigans with only 14 attacks? You are a bold one, indeed... If you can get 'em, Paid to Protect is a way better defensive foundation for you than Stand Off, simply because you're loaded with keywords (every attack you carry has at least 2), it's guaranteed redux, and you can reset speed with it (ohai, Hilde*). Smazzurco 0 Posted September 26, 2009 WIth Pauls built in boost, Toughest in the Universe, and hungry for battle, my attacks do enough dmg (so far) to where i have not had a problem not drawing enough attacks. Also pauls Gi helps me draw 2 cards, preferably on opponents turn, so that i can get a hand full. After stun3 from wheel kick, 2 from lifter (plus some decent dmg) and a phoenix smasher + toughest in the universe, i have had plenty of dmg...not much dmg reduction around these days compared to 4point. I have been thinking about dropping phoenix smasher down..maybe it will be a 2 of when i get my 3rd lifter. And turn thruster is good but i feel scary enough with 2 2 checks If i was to attempt to up my attack line up and add some turn thrusters...what would you advise of taking out? LordAggro 0 Posted September 26, 2009 Well, here's the line-up the Paul deck 'round here is running. It has a lot of 2 checks, but it hasn't been an issue thanks to For the Money and Communing with the Ancients... 4 Zi Mei's Wheel Kick 4 The Boot 4 Dragon Lifter 3 Turn Thruster (we need 1 more...) 2 Hammer of the Gods 2 Phoenix Smasher This combined with Nursing a Grudge and From the Mouse, Humility assures you you'll always have lots of attacks to beat face with (I don't know about you, but Stun hasn't been enough against decks with low block modifiers + draw or Torn Hero, at least not 'till late game). If you like, you can trim off the Hammer of the Gods (they're probably gonna get the boot when we get the last Turn Thruster anyway...).
Worker_X 0 Posted September 27, 2009 This is the attack lineup I have been testing: 4 x Pommel Smash 3/3 2H1 Stun:1 Weapon4 x Zi Mei's Wheel Kick 3/3 +2M 2H1 Stun:3 Kick4 x Turn Thruster 4/2 +1M 2H4 Stun;1 Punch Combo (stun)4 x Tandoya 5/3 3L5 Stun;1 Punch4 x The Boot 4/3 +1L 3m5 Stun:1 Kick2 x Phoenix Smasher 5/3 +2M 3M6 Combo (stun, stun) I am looking at trying Dragon Lifter Instead of Tandoya. Initially I ignored it focusing on punch attacks. Originally the deck was going to be a Paul Phoenix/Steve Fox deck set up so I could change the characters and Phoenix Smasher to Blazing Fist from my sideboard. However, there are not enough fire stun punches (and I don't think I will find many in the upcoming SCVI set).
