How does the scoring work?

Recommended Posts

So how does scoring work?  I know how to score when blowing up a ship, but i don't know what people are talking about when they say "I won 10-0."  I know when someone answers that I will be like.... oh how did I not get that but until then I'm in the dark

From the tournament rules (click here for link, it is found on page 2):

Players earn tournament points at the end of each match. These points are used to determine the winner of the tournament. Tournament points are awarded based on the match’s margin of victory.

Margin of Victory    Win / Loss

0–20                         5       5

21–50                       6       4

51–90                       7       3

91–150                     8       2

151–220                   9       1

221+                        10      0

So you and your opponent both add up points at the end (points come from destroyed ships/squadrons and from objectives). You then find the Margin of Victory (MoV) and that determines how many tournament points the winner gets and how many points the loser gets.

Example (using random numbers for simplicity):

Say I destroy 50 points of my opponents forces. My opponent destroyed 275 points of my forces and won the match by destroying all my ships. so you take my opponents 275 points and subtract my 50 points from it (275-50=225), giving him a MoV of 225 points. So you then look at the chart, with a MoV of 225, my opponent would get 10 points and I would get 0 (so he won 10-0).

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a copy of the tournament rules before it was updated with the 300 point level in mind?

I'm running a 180 tournament next weekend and would love to be able to look at the older version of the document.

On my playing group we have a question. What happens to the wins? I won 2 of the 3 games with a margin of 180 o greater in that case I have 20 tournament points. On the third match me and my opponent destroy no ships in the game nor figthers. Because I'm first player he gets the win an both of us receive 5 points. His tournament points are less than mine because he has eight and seven. Although he have more wins. Who is the winner?

That is correct. Tournament points are all that matters, while your MOV is used to determine Tie-breakers between players with equal TP.

It is also important to note that even if you outscore your opponent in FP, if he kills your fleet, he still "wins". Say you kill everything in a Rebel players list but his 39 pts Corvette, and you get 5 victory tokens worth 20 each, and he wipes your fleet out but gets no victory tokens. You'd technically get 361 pts to his 300, but because he "won" via fleet knockout he still just subtracts your Fleet Points from his for MOV, resulting in a 5-5 with no MOV for either opponent.

Its a weird corner case, but i can see it coming up.
