dbb143 39 Posted May 26, 2015 Just wanted to share some photos of the folding Armada play table I made over the holiday weekend. Printed out the image another member posted a while back on semi gloss photo paper, bolted a painted board (cut in half) to a folding table, double sided taped the print out to the board, mounted plexi glass over the image to preserve it and prevent ship based from scoring, scuffing, or scraping it. Looks a lot better in person. Now, if I could just get someone to play on it with me . . . 13 CobaltWraith, wilsonodk, TheAmbit and 10 others reacted to this

CobaltWraith 229 Posted May 26, 2015 Nicely done sir! It looks like you has some fun with this. Do you have any plans for handles or anything to make it easier to transport?
dbb143 39 Posted May 26, 2015 The folding table had a handle that was nice, but of course it is on the side where I let the board stick out extra for space to put cards, tokens, etc. so reaching between the boards to grab it is a pain. I think I'm going to add a luggage style shoulder strap where the folding edge is (top edge on the last image), but we'll see how it works . . . 1 Rottenreason reacted to this
jonboyjon1990 911 Posted May 26, 2015 Nice work! Quick and easy solution - not sure how I'd like to play on such a smooth and reflective surface though - but well done all the same!
cruiser2710 284 Posted May 26, 2015 I have that table but I use it for my painting jobs 1 Jut reacted to this
wtfboar 47 Posted May 27, 2015 How much did printing that image cost you?
dbb143 39 Posted May 27, 2015 I called around and UPS would have charged ~$50 to print it on plain matte paper. A local printing supply store would do it on matte paper for ~$18. We have a large printer at my work so we printed off a test strip on matte paper and it looked hazy, cloudy, and you could see the print lines (yuck). To get it on glossy paper would have cost about 4 or 5x at the local print place, so I worked out a deal to print it on glossy at work for cost of materials and wear and tear on the printer (~$25). I'm sure there are places online that you could find to do it and ship it for less than $50 or so I bet.
Rottenreason 123 Posted May 27, 2015 This table is AWESOME!
err404 131 Posted May 27, 2015 You could get a vinyl banner printed at the full size for around $25 online. It's a more durable surface that could be used with or without your plexiglass top
theruleslawyer 165 Posted May 27, 2015 Yah, I had that image done on vinyl for ~$38 shipped. Looks nice. I should get a sheet of plex to help hold it flat if nothing else. Vinyl is plenty durable, but unless you store it flat it has memory.

Crabbok 9,798 Posted May 27, 2015 Excellent work! My only concern is that if you hadn't used the Armada logo, then you would instead have a multi-purpose table, instead of an Armada-only table. I mean granted you could in theory play D&D, Cards against Humanity, X-Wing on it, or heck even have thanksgiving dinner there... but then Granny is going to be asking you "Who is Amanda and why is her name all over your table?". Because Granny don't have her glasses on. 1 TenuousGrip reacted to this

Use this version if you don't want the logo http://i.imgur.com/5hzkybf.jpg Or grab the PSD and turn off the deployment and/or setup area if you don't like it. http://www.ruleslawyer.bellguard.com/shared/nasa.psd
