...  Well, one could argue that is Gaming.  From a Gaming Company point of view, the idea *is* to make money out of your punters.

This applies to virtually -every- Gaming Company...  From Wargaming, to Card Gaming, to *Gaming*-Gaming and Casinos.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of -any- company that sells quality models, and supports an official tournament scene with dedicated product prizes, that -doesn't- state that you need the actual *thing* to compete.

Hey if you guys are all okay with it, then it's obviously just me, but that's fine. I'll go play at my local wargames club instead of tramping over to a local shop 20 miles away.

 

I have no problem owning product.. maybe you should have to show a core set proof of purchase or something at the start of every tourney game.

I don't even mind owing the product itself, and proving it too.

The objection is not being allowed to use a card from a product I own more than once. I shouldn't have to buy 4 expensive items simply to use 4 cards from that pack.

 

And.. i'll qualify it further by saying I'd have no problem if it effected the game (maybe you had to shuffle the card into a deck or whatever)

but in armada it's simply informational.

Several of the cards also act as status indicators (in that you use the card itself to show whether or not the card is used/tapped or not)

Sure, there'll be ways to proxy in the same information that the card was showing, but then you're entering the realm of having to explain to opponents how you do things different from the RAW, instead of them being able to just look over at your cards and see "That VSD card has an Intel Officer card next to it which is ready for use".

 

Edit: By the way, you don't need to buy 4 expansions to get the 4 cards you want. You can always buy the cards individually (say off of ebay), or trade for them on a handy trade thread. I'm sure someone started one up somewhere if you can find it

Couldn't agree more, this is a trade thread, so let's get back to posting our trades. Mine will be posted this evening, I have had several good experiences on the X-wing trade thread, hopefully we can get some good trades here as well.

It's not just you, I too consider myself intelligent enough not to fall for that particular business ploy. I can absolutely symphatize with a company needing to make profit, and I can understand that for official tournaments you can only use their models, and that conversions need to use their models as a base. I am also absolutely willing to pay their pretty hefty pricetag for those models. But this whole card business just rubs me the wrong way. This aversion could be a European thing though, perhaps in other parts of the world this card business is considered reasonable.
