The biggest star wars campaign ever?

Recommended Posts

Howdy all,

I've been working away on an epic star wars campaign for my friends group.

http://vom-krieg.blogspot.co.nz/2015/05/epic-star-wars-campaign-battle-for.html

In short, the idea was to take on a whole sector level operation. And play everything from the rebellion leaders, through to the grunts on the ground. I'm using the RPG as a core game, along with X-wing, Armada and Imperial assault. To support that, i've made my own "strategy level" game borrowing heavily from the star wars dice mechanics.

So, just putting this here and seeing what people think. As we play through, i'll playtest the mechanics as well and fine tune them. They seem to be working ok right now, but as with anything different, you never can tell.

If it works well, I might put the resources online for people to use.

Cheers

I don't know if its the biggest but it is certainly up there and looks awesome. If they ever do a Scum faction in Armada some to you could add options to create privateer fleets or to do things like allowing factions that don't have much influence or control over Alliance shipyards to purchase ships from outlaw yards.

Looks like its going great. I still think a privateer system in the system would be a lot of fun but that could easily be complex enough that waiting until the basics are locked would be bet..

Yeah, i'm thinking that system could be a go. even if its just for "scum" fighters at this stage and/or merc support for imperial assault.

In theory you could do Privateer Armada games as soon as they release freighters, if they ever do. The CR90 was the most common civilian capital ship model in the galaxy in the rebellion era so it was widely used by pirates and privateers and while the Neb-B wasn't nearly as common in non-military hands some of the most famous Alliance Privateer ships were Neb-Bs.Once wave II hits you'll have Raiders and Glads for an escort force, and hopefully the Empire will get more escort craft as time passes.

Ithkrall, I had to make a profile since I am loving your large campaign idea and am following execution.

I run a AoR campaign myself in the traditional sense and have wanted to move off the current world my players are on. I think I am going to have them go to the Talathen sector.

From there I will follow your posts and have them execute the ground operations your players come up with. For example I think my next session after the one I lead this weekend will be a raid on an imperial base during Imperial Day celebrations. I'll give them benefits based on your players preparedness and make them fill in as grunts in a larger campaign. It might end up being a fun test for them as they are indirectly subjected to the whims and play level of an unknown group of individuals.

Awesome, I take it you've got the sector guide in the first post? Feel free to run any story you want as well, I'd love for a random rebel cell to be doing it's own thing slightly off the radar.

Brilliant

I love the campaign: it reminds me fondly of Model UN crisis simulations. I'm following closely, and may (with your permission) have my group head over to the Talathen Sector for a one-shot or two. They're an Edge group that I've moved towards a Rebel leaning, so I'd enjoy thinking up some exciting smuggling runs, moving weapons or people for the Rebels.

Sounds awesome to me, more than comfortable weaving any impacts from your game into ours. I like the cross pollination idea of different stories impacting on the campaign, and the campaign acting as a back drop for other people's stories.

You mention using WotC minis to supplement Imperial Assault figurines. How was that combination? Was there a really obvious difference in scale?

They are a little less chunky, but on the table they look fine

You can buy individual figures from miniature market as well, I just went through, sorting price from cheapest to most expensice and got a variety of figs. Some were as low as $0.50 each, i think the most i paid for an individual figure was $4, and that was for a dude with a red lightsaber to use as the mysterious sith character in the campaign.

Just checked, it looks like other people have had the same idea. The selection on mini-market is a lot smaller than it was 6 months ago

I'm really enjoying following the campaign - it's making me wish I had the resources to do the same thing myself.

Well you were involved in the campaign, bravo squad actually had a real impact on turn 2 causing the Empire to focus it's resources on a dead end. That made other operations planning a lot easier.

My players were blown away with the idea that other groups wanted to join in. It made their day

Yes, I noticed that on the end phase writeup - I'm glad the players enjoyed it! My own group enjoyed the idea of being able to have impacts on a larger narrative, and it actually seemed to encourage more in-character roleplaying.

My group is going to finish Operation: Shadowpoint soon, and I'm planning on runing Perlimian Haul afterwards. Is there anything that logistics command would like to get ahold of? ;)

I'll ask the guy in charge  of Logistics. The idea of other groups running missions to fill his coffers will fill him with delight. I'll have a quick read over the scenario as well and get back to you in a wee while

Ok, I'm gonna have to start assigning numbers/codes to groups. And, do do it properly, lets use Aurebesh

Aurek Squad is my group of PC's in the Age of rebellion Campaign

Besh Squad, i'll assign to Rortharrs group

Cresh Squad, BMFS's group that is kicking off in a few weeks time

Dorn Squad, Killdear's group on the Perlimian Haul and any other missions they wish to run.

Esk Squad, Hallarn Yarn's special forces team for our Imperial Assault games.
