thanosazlin 52 Posted May 11, 2015 so the new FAQ was released by FFG. there is a statement in Attacks on page 1 that states Q: When a ship resolves an ability that allows it to add dice to the attack pool, can it add those dice if their color is not normally appropriate for the range of the attack? A: Yes. The range restriction on dice color applies only when dice are gathered during the “Roll Attack Dice” step of an attack. so i take this as , if i have a Star Destroyer attacking a Neb-B at long range where by only red attack dice can be used, then i am able to add blue dice to the attack if i have an ability that adds dice to the attack pool (during the "resolve attack effects" step), even though the Neb-B is not within range of blue dice?? DWRR 898 Posted May 11, 2015 During the modify dice step of the attack, after rolling your attack pool, you can add dice using any relevant effects. At this point you are correct in reading it as you are allowed to add any dice specified by the effect regardless of range. Range is only used when forming your attack pool. Most effects that add dice happen in the modify dice step where range isn't checked.
wonderpug 219 Posted May 11, 2015 Yes. The range restriction on dice color applies only when dice are gathered during the “Roll Attack Dice” step of an attack. ; ) See the FAQ section on Opening Salvo for a specifically stated example. : ) 1 DWRR reacted to this
infusco 91 Posted May 12, 2015 Please note that a VSD with the Dominator title can still only use them at medium range as that's specified on the card itself

Yes, BUT do note that currently the only ability in the game that allows you to add dice outside their "traditional" range is the second player ability of the "Opening Salvo" Objective. Everything else I am currently aware of that allows you to add dice either cannot be used at other ranges (Dominator adds blue dice but is limited to Short-Medium) or is limited to dice already present in the pool (for example Concentrate Fire Command) or specifically red dice, which are always in usable up to long range anyway. Smuggler 556 Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) But opening salvo opens up for abilities restricted to "allready in your attack pool". So with concentrate fire command dial, if you use the opening salvo ability first (I belive they have the same trigger som you are free to chose order) and add a black dice at long range, the dial now allows you to add an other black dice.
