Wheel of Time LCG

12 posts in this topic

I know The Wheel of Time had its own CCG back in the day, but would anyone be interested in a Living Card Game based on the property? Themes of reincarnation, destiny, and the Wheel turning could lead to some compelling gameplay, in FFG's talented hands. I also feel the tone of this series is sufficiently different from that of AGoT, W:I, and LotR that it could be successful.

I love the series, but would only go into a co-op one, as I have no partner for non co-op LCGs.
Btw, loved the old Middle Earth: The Wizards game by ICE, and collected it for fun, but never had anyone to play it with. Co-op LCGs (and games generally) are way easier to draw people to.

I imagine that's true. It conveys more of a boardgame mentality, and is particularly attractive in that once you own the game, you don't need to find other people who play it, and can just teach them the rules and you're good.

I burned out on the series around Book 7. Nothing like reading 800 pages of crap where the story doesn't move forward at all to kill the buzz! However, I still love the setting and would be all about an LCG, and even a second go at an RPG (though I don't know if there's a substantial enough audience for the latter).

I eventually persevered through to the end. Honestly I'm not sure it was worth it, despite it being finished by a much better author (Brandon Sanderson). Although the quality of the books does pick up again after book 10, it never got as good again as the early books were. The ending felt rushed, and somewhat forced.

All that said, I do think there's enough material there that a decent LCG/RPG could be made from it, provided the Jordan estate is interested in licensing the material.
