SirWillibald 970 Posted May 11, 2015 Update:New DiceBox for X-Wing added, basically the same as the one I designed for Armada, but this one only holds two dice types (surprise): Comes with a detailed and illustrated step-by-step instruction site. LordFajubi 1,308 Posted May 21, 2015 Wow, just wow man. You are like a crafting god for tabletop gaming. Amazing designs for your creations and the how to faqs for building were very well done. Professional companies could learn a thing or 2 from you but never join them, it would destroy the care you put into your efforts. I salute you sir on behalf of gamers everywhere. 1 SirWillibald reacted to this
Isnigu 120 Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) Very Nice. Thank You. Now I need to buy some card stock... Normal paper also works fine. While the box itself won't be that strong, once it holds cards it gains "structural regidity" anyway. Got all my cards in these boxes, and log them along whenever I play. Not even a dent in a corner so far. Just gotta make sure you have them in the correct size. Edit: Sir WIllibald, maybe an idea to make them 2 sized? One for with and one for without sleeves? Saves people having to manually resize the print. Edited May 22, 2015 by Isnigu

Don't know what to say, really, I'm flattered. Thanks you so much for your nice words! And don't fear, I don't intend to join any company (even though I could make good use of an additional paycheck...) Very Nice. Thank You. Now I need to buy some card stock... Edit: Sir WIllibald, maybe an idea to make them 2 sized? One for with and one for without sleeves? Saves people having to manually resize the print. Oh man, that would be an enormous pile of cumbersome and dumb work, first resizing everything and then doing another bunch of about 500 pages of pdf... Honestly, I don't see myself having that much additional time, sorry. But I have another idea, if I (or anybody else...) figure out once at how much percentage you have to print the small and the large boxes so that they fit unsleeved cards, this info could be shared on my website with ease. Of course that would mean reducing the thickness as well, but that won't be a problem, since the card pile is significantly less high without sleeves. Only thing is that size 1, 2, 3 no longer corresponds with 1cm, 2cm, 3cm thickness. But perhaps that's not that big of a problem. I'll see what I can do! Little update on my website: All MicroHangars and GearBoxes are available from now on. Only minor changes, though (Interceptor GearBox had too much pilots). http://www.sirwillibald.com Edited May 23, 2015 by SirWillibald
shifty33 3 Posted May 23, 2015 Wondering have u ever thought about a box that is used to carry around your squad at tournaments? Like a one box carry all your dice cards and ships from table to table For easy clean up and move. Other then that this all looks really good and prob will be doing some of them up to use here soon. Like a one box carry all your dice cards and ships from table to table For easy clean up and move. Other then that this all looks really good and prob will be doing some of them up to use here soon.Since I'm no tournament player I haven't thought about that. The tournament boxes were done on request. Working on an update to include storage option for upgrade cards. Adding more won't be a problem, I just lack the experience how much stuff you usually have to carry around. If some regular tournament players around here are willing to share some info I'd be happy to give it a try! Here's what I think without experience: Storing requirements: - Area for ships on bases (how big?) - Tuckboxes for pilot and upgrade cards. Or perhaps it would be better to have something that you won't need to open and close each time? With how much cards of both types are you usually dealing with on average? - Space for damage dispenser. - Something for tokens, asteroids and dice (how much? How big?) Other requirememts: - Sturdy design. Granted, the outer box might better be made of wood or something similar, but my main approach is to provide something that is both cheap and easy to build. But if I do something like this I would include some measurements so everybody can build something even more sturdy around this thing, if desired. - Everything should be arranged in a way that you can pack the box at home (if possible with the option to close it), carry it to your tournament and play "out of the box". Sounds worth trying? And your welcome to help me out with some real experience. Even a simple photo of a given tournament pile might help me to get an impression. Happily that coincides together quite nicely. Some very rare lists fly 3 big, but I personally wouldn't design for that. Or maybe as alternative setup or something. -For pilot cards and upgrades: If you only fly 2 ships you will have a lot of upgrades (4-5 per ship wouldn't be an exception). If you swarm with 6-8 ships you will have no/low upgrades. I think something like a "sleeve" would be better for this than a tuckbox. You will need to put it in and out every time, so you wont bother putting it in a tuckbox. -The damage deck will 100% of the time be in there, so something for that. This could be an intregated dispenser like what you made already. - Dice: people generally have 3-6 dice per colour. So if it has two "cups" that can fit 6 each you'd be covered no matter what. -Tokens: This is a bit tricky. Some ships use 5 each, some use 1. Can't really say much here. SirWillibald 970 Posted May 23, 2015 Ok, thanks. How common are lists with 2 big ships and additional small ones (how much?)? And I think I forgot the maneuver templates.
Isnigu 120 Posted May 23, 2015 2 (Big) ships are quite common. Brobots, Fat Han + escort, Superdash and friend, Chirpy and Fel etc. 2 Big and some small are quite uncommon. I can't really think of any currently popular list that would bring that. Someone that brings double shuttle plus escorts for a gimmick list maybe? Anyone else has an idea? Maneuver templates, ofcourse. Forgot them aswell If you can someone incorperate one of those standing them uppy thingies so you can instantly grab em in a match thats extra bonus points. Corsec has them, if you want an example of what I mean.

And are the outer dimensions of this thing similar to other ones? Otherwise only people with this exact holder would benefit. And there's one more objection from me towards adding this: One fundamental design aspect of all (!) my cardboard work for X-Wing and Armada is to provide cheap and easy to build stuff. I already strechted the latter with the Armada CommandBridge so I'm really hesitant to sacrifice the first one, because it would mean that the (not even done) box could only be used as intended if you additionally invest into this holder thing. Don't get me wrong, I like it, it's small and efficient and I even like a lot of other storage options than my cardboard madness thing, but I kind of see it as a challenge to limit myself to use only cardboard when designing anything new. 1 VorackTheGrim reacted to this
Isnigu 120 Posted May 23, 2015 I didn't mean add a slot where you could insert this thing. I meant that if you are adding space to hold the templates if you shape em like slots, such as how this thing does it, you both save on table space (since it doesnt have to hold the templates lying down) and it makes it nice to use during the game. SirWillibald 970 Posted May 26, 2015 Ok, understood, but I have to tell you that I don't think this is suitable for cardstock. I gave it a try and it's just not sturdy enough in my opinion. A much better (and still reasonable cheap) solution would be to build a foamcore version and print some fancy stickers. Already thinking about it... Forensicus 883 Posted May 26, 2015 Much appraisal to you, sir. I was initially going to do a regular foam board insert (see below) for the local board game cafe who has 2 core sets and one of each Wave 1, but after printing your boxes for all the stuff on some heavy duty thick paper I'm switching to simply do 2 layers of foam board with sections for the boxes. I think it will almost be possible to fit it all in 1 core set box My own foam board Your boxes 1 SirWillibald reacted to this
