wtfboar 47 Posted May 26, 2015 I sold my all my X-Wing ships for Armada. And I have been hooked on Armada, I can't wait for wave 2. However I have been waching a few of the X-Wing tournament videos and I am thinking about buying a 100 point X-Wing list
JJs Juggernaut 1,843 Posted May 31, 2015 I have likewise sold my X-wing (to be best friend, so I still get to play occasionally ) to finance more Armada purchases. I'll play x-wing only if it is something someone lese want to play, otherwise I'm going to recommend and suggest Armada; I just love it sooooo much!!!! Edsel62 306 Posted June 4, 2015 (edited) I own a lot of x-wing ships and I certainly do not intend to quit playing that game. Armada is new and I am very enthuastic about it right now. One of my closest friends has a lot of x-wing ships as well and for financial reasons he has chosen to avoid getting involved in Armada. I will play x-wing with him anytime we both have the chance. I will be playing Armada every chance I get. I continue to expand on my x-wing miniature collection and still want to get more scum ships, and I will be buying the next wave as they are released. Boardy 79 Posted June 4, 2015 I didn't play X-Wing (tho of course I play Armada), so I never started it. Fleets and carriers and squadrons are more my thing, I'm more into that than Star Wars as a whole. But a lot of guys at my store are really dragging their feet. A lot of them are turned off of Armada because of the cost of entering a whole other FFG game. Which I can certainly understand. Makes me sad though, we could have a much bigger crowd. I hope and suspect as time goes on that slowly they will invest and come to the dark side of the force (we have cookies). A couple have already quietly picked up starter fleets without me knowing, so I hope the trend continues.
Green Knight 9,732 Posted June 4, 2015 X-wing was an OK game, but I never got hooked. I might borrow a few minis and play occasionally, but that's about it. Armada is so much more fun.
Boris_the_Dwarf 225 Posted June 5, 2015 Still enjoy X-Wing, but I'm ready to get the Armada bandwagon rolling. I think interest will spike with Wave II. What X-Wing needs to stay fresh is a set of objective cards and a 7-round limit. Most games are decided by that point, in my experience.

I agree it would be an good idea for x-wing to do a core expansion or something. More objectives, updated rulebook and so on
Lancezh 98 Posted June 15, 2015 Yep, sold all my X-Wing stuff just the other day. Not regretting it at all. 1 RedPriest reacted to this
Spellbound 27 Posted June 23, 2015 I don't like X-wing 1 on 1, but I still love the game when we play team battles with lots of ships. Armada I like both 1on1 and as teams, and I've always preferred capital ship battles (Battlefleet Gothic, Battletech, Dystopian Wars). 1 Crawfskeezen reacted to this
Sirdrasco 254 Posted June 28, 2015 Heck know I play both and some Imperial Assault. So I incorporated all into a campaign! https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/179542-thinking-of-a-utah-armada-campaign/?hl=sirdrasco Let me know what you think! Drasnighta 26,831 Posted June 28, 2015 Honestly, I'm put off X-Wing now.I don't play it, but I was considering it... But between the way its talked about here in the forums, as well as the fact that its been going for a while - I wonder just how much fun I'd have trying to get into the system now... At least with Armada, everyone's at the bottom of the learning curve together. 2 Stasy and RedPriest reacted to this
Crawfskeezen 370 Posted June 29, 2015 I find Armada can be a bit one sided sometimes where as X-Wing is more open. I played a game of Armada last week where I had my opponent dead to rights by turn 3 and just proceeded to pick him apart. However, yesterday the game of X-Wing I played I had but for one ship tabled my opponent save his YT-1300 (different players) and he came back in the next two turns and killed everything but my Lambda before I finally lined him up for the killing blow. He very nearly took me out. Had he gotten past me he would have flown circles around me and taken me down. In that respect I like X-Wing for a more casual atmosphere, with more luck to it. Armada is a bit more serious and far more difficult to come back from being down. I don't mind either environment but some of my friends aren't interested in Armada because of that. "It's too complicated," or "It's to intense." The same way one may not be interested in Warhammer or 40K, I've observed X-Wing is more appealing to non-wargamers. I won't be putting X-Wing down but I'll still be getting more into Armada. I'm very much looking forward to the release of the Imperial Raider in both games. Deadshane 720 Posted August 13, 2015 I dont think one should sell their X Wing collection for more Armada. That being said, Ive got a 40k Space Marine Army (my last holdout from GW gaming).... ...and I would like a couple more Gladiators, another Nebulon, and there is a whole wave up for preorder... Bye bye GW...if only your game wasnt crap.
ouzel 407 Posted August 16, 2015 Nope I never got into it. all the templates and book keeping put me off.
Mikael Hasselstein 6,898 Posted August 20, 2015 Several months later, I'm still of the same opinion. I'm happily playing both games. In my area there isn't a lot of overlap between the two communities. The Armada community is still small, and because I was an early adopter and generally get more games in than other people, I'm a bit of a predator. But people will catch up to me in time, just as I've been catching up to people in X-Wing.
Drasnighta 26,831 Posted August 20, 2015 X-Wing still gets more play at Armada, but every day, I'm still more and more put off by the bredth of what is available - and seemingly "required" for X-Wing...There's no easy way to start at the moment, and there's no way to easily pick up a play style until you are able to experiment with a VERY vast array of things...... and then you're apparently Netlisting everything...So, yeah. I'm still turned off. 1 Stasy reacted to this
Stasy 2,501 Posted August 20, 2015 Seriously, I would have kept buying into X wing if they didn't have massive supply issues and price gouging when I did find them. Now it feels like I'd need to buy so much to catch up it'd be silly. And honestly, Armada plays at a more fun pace for me.

So, yeah. I'm still turned off. I can certainly see how getting into X-Wing now (I got in a year and a half ago) can be overwhelming. It's also been great getting in on the ground floor with Armada and being with it since the beginning. But I disagree that it's imperative to netlist. I've been doing pretty well with a list featuring four Academy TIEs and a couple of loaded TIE Bombers. The Bomber, as well as the ordnance it carries, is considered to be quite under-powered and out of favor. That said, in order to get the two Proximity Mines that those bombers carry, I had to get two Slave-I expansions. The cluster missiles also come from A-Wing, TIE Advanced, and the new Raider-class Corvette expansions, ... So... yeah, it definitely helps if you have a lot of expansions to tailor your list. And, honestly, I can't wait 'till we're there with Armada too. I just got done building a list for a tournament tomorrow, and I wish there were more options for me to build my list with. Drasnighta 26,831 Posted August 23, 2015 Yeah, that's kind of what I mean... Having to look online, pull from what sources are available that way, and hope you have a lot available...At least with Armada, its definately been interesting trying to work out what things to put together on my own... And I know that I'm going up against people in the same bandwagon. With X-Wing, even if I could drop $100 right off the bat, I know I'm just not going to be prepared for that first game when someone drops one of the main combos and laughs... chilligan 1,302 Posted August 23, 2015 I don't get why "netlisting" is the AntiChrist. Squad building is one part of the game, sure, but it requires the most experience. Having a player jump right in and not having to worry about his list being just plain bad is great! We have a new player that picked up only 2 ships and a Core Set, less than 100$ equivalent. Sure, he burrows some cards to play in a tournament, but he did great and he's enjoying himself. Are you guys familiar with "The Fox and the Grapes"? This thread reminds me of it a lot, although OPs post definitely wasn't in that spirit. To answer the OP, I like Armada a lot, but I'm not giving up X-wing. X-wing is quicker to play, more diverse in playstyles, with a very nice tournament scene. Armada still has a long way to grow, both in user base and in diversity. 1 frankelee reacted to this
Extropia 1,475 Posted September 15, 2015 I've gone off X-wing gradually over the last few waves tbh. This is primarily due to my dislike of ship releases, the ongoing power creep (not huge, and many people wont actually agree, but it feels like it to me) and generally the feeling thats it's no longer the game i loved in the early waves to many people. I will be continuing to play fun dogfights against other players i know in the same boat, but it's not a huge deal for me. Armada isnt responsible for that, but it has driven home how much more i like it as a game, at least so far. And thats with just Wave 1 out and pitifully few options. I'm ludirously excited by future releases!
Altahara 327 Posted September 17, 2015 I'll be honest. At the least I'll be selling my rebel ships. With the requirement of new damage deck. I'm not a fan. Yes I know. I'll be ae to buy imp half and damage deck from someone who buys two. But that's not the point.
Tvayumat 3,637 Posted September 21, 2015 I made no conscious decision to play one game over the other, but there is a clear divergence...Over the last month, my carrying case has gradually lost X-Wing components in favor of making space for Armada components, to the point that I'm considering removing the X-Wing components entirely and boxing them along with the ships that I haven't brought out in over a month.I actively seek games of Armada with the attitude of "I'll play X-Wing if a game pops up" which it never does. With the recent addition of a new damage deck that I apparently "have to buy" coming with Ep VII ships that I don't want, it's like they're TRYING to drive me away.Strongly considering selling off my magnetized, custom painted collection, and maybe even my modded, LED lit Raider. At this point they're just display items. Stasy 2,501 Posted September 21, 2015 So I went to a casual tournament today for X Wing after not touching the game for a year and NEVER playing in a tournament. Oh, and I never got outside of Wave 2 (didn't even get everything there). I came in 2nd via tiebreakers! And since the winner already had one of the grand prizes, he handed it down to me! I'm the proud owner of a Force Awakens core set! ****...I'll have to go play some of the casual tournaments now.
