Battle Foam has Armada shapes

Recommended Posts

I just checked Battle Foam's custom tray creator, and they have some of the Armada shapes in:

  • Squadron
  • Medium Flight Stand
  • Large Flight Stand
  • Victory Star Destroyer

I'm not sure if this is final, or if they have more shapes to add.

So they expect ships to be stored assembled?

I think the idea is that the large imperial ships would be as big as the small rebel ships assembled?  So take the VSD off the stand and store it with the rest of the Core ships in one tray.  This is why I'm waiting for Wave2/3 before committing to custom foam trays.  On the plus side, Flames of War medium vehicle trays hold squadrons very nicely.  Makes a good stopgap, if you have FoW trays already.

looking at pictures like this, there seems to be some wasted space:

if you're willing to unassemble/reassemble the ship stands, you could probably stack a 3-4 of 'em in a 3 inch deep tray.  that would free up foam for shapes specific to each ship.

so, yeah, going to hold out for more shapes methinks.

Yes, lots of wasted space. It's only their first tray so I expect better options as time goes on. I like the idea of storing squadrons assembled but not the capital ships.

Where in the dropdowns of the custom tray creator did you find this?  I was looking the other day and couldn't find them.

You may have a cached version of the creator in your browser.  Open the creator in its own window, and then click reload on your browser while holding the Shift or Ctrl keys.

Hmm, maybe that's it.  I could have sworn the first place I checked was near the X-Wing shapes.  Thanks, and you too Sozin.

So Battle Foam finally got back to me, and it looks like having Armada-sized shapes for the CR90 and Nebulon-B would require a custom trace.  I've already decided to go with Sir Willibald's MicroHangars instead of continuing with Battle Foam (for Armada, at least), but in case anyone is interested:

Thanks! These items would require a trace for them.

Here are some step by step instructions that we hope will get you started:

1)      Print out a custom order form and make sure to complete all sections: http://www.battlefoam.com/BattleFoamCustomForm.pdf

2)      Gather the model

3)      Place the model on the Custom Trace Sheet that has a ruler. All pages with tracings must have a ruler on the side. This helps to ensure that any resizing due to printers, faxes, or programs  can be properly corrected once we receive them.

4)      Carefully start tracing the model as close to the edge as possible with a pencil or pen. Keep a close eye that the model does not move or shift during tracing.  When finished remove the model and retrace the shape with a marker such as a Sharpie.  For visual reference please see our examples at http://us.battlefoam.com/pages/Custom-Order-Form.html

5)      Label. Please be as detailed with your description as possible

6)      Write your first name, last name, phone number, email address, and order number (if you have it) on the Custom Trace Sheet

7)      http://us.battlefoam.com/categories/Custom-Cut-Foam-Trays/  -- Use this link to purchase your desired size tray.
