I think it's time to blow this scene. Get everybody and the stuff together. OK. 3, 2, 1- Let's JAM!

This weekend is Star Wars Celebration. I've already cried at the sound of Han and Chewie in the new trailer. New TIEs and X-Wings are all the rage on the forums. And I just can't get enough Star Wars over the next few days.

HOWEVER...

I received my Swordfish II models in the mail today and I couldn't help being beyond happy and excited to get these things. They look fantastic and seem to be true to the scale of X-Wing Miniatures. I painted one up real quick and am quite pleased with the result:

Here is the comparison shot next to an unpainted Swordfish and an X-Wing:

If you couldn't tell already by my name, I'm a huge Bebop fan, so seeing the Swordfish on the tabletop is gonna be loads of fun. Here's a quick mock-up of Spike's stats and ability we plan on testing this weekend (A-Wing dial):

This is my first Shapeways purchase and wasn't expecting it to be so grainy, so I tried thinning my paint a little less than usual but it still ended up clumping together, which ended up being a mistake on my part since it didn't help with the grainy texture any way. This is also in frosted ultra as well. Luckily I have a second one to work with.

Either way, I'm still pleased at how awesome this model turned out! It's still in the WIP stages, but I couldn't help but share it with the community. All of you other Bebop fans can find the model here if you wish to get one of your own:http://www.shapeways.com/product/D856XNPJT/swordfish-ii-1-270?li=productGroup&optionId=56048008

If you guys have any ideas for stats or paint jobs, let me know! I'm gonna try to get some more Bebop stuff when it becomes available.

I'm not sure what kind of plastic it is. Whatever Shapeways uses for frosted ultra detail printing? Not quite sure. I didn't want to sand down the model because it was already thin and some of the raised details would've been muted or lost, and I didn't want to prime it since the etched details would fill in as well. The model is a bit tricky to work with since it is so small and the lines are shallow, but I know there are smaller things people have worked on, I'm just not that experienced with painting miniatures in general!

Here are some more pics:

Magnetized to fit on a base!

Also working on a different paint scheme. I don't know what to call this one yet, "Blue Fin"? "Swordfish III"?

I really love that show too.  Do you know what kind of plastic the model is?  I've heard of people putting prints in acetone vapor for a bit to even out the graininess.  Acetone dissolves ABS, but as a vapor not that much is in contact with the plastic so it slows down the process.

Acetone vapor?  Like, just opening up a bottle of acetone in a small container alongside the model?

That's my understanding.

I think I've seen setups where a small amount of heat was applied, but I don't know if it's necessary.
