The explanation that was devised for this scene is, I believe, that the Star Wars "galaxy" is much more complex than the Milky Way and is actually a very large main galaxy orbited by a couple of smaller dwarf galaxies. The Rischi Maze mentioned in attack of the clones is one such (at least, according to some sources). The Milky Way has plenty of dwarf galaxies orbiting it as well - not spirals though. The only source that suggests that the object might be the Rishi Maze is the Episode II DVD - later Legends sources stated that it is indeed the galaxy.
