Demethostes 89 Posted April 2, 2015 On the note of "Rules Reference Guide gems", I found this little nugget the other day that I haven't seen anyone mentioned yet... RRG pg. 6 - Engagement:Bullet pt. 4"If line of sight between two squadrons is obstructed, those squadrons are not engaged even if at distance 1 of each other, though they can still attack each other."I found this rather interesting, especially for bombers. Bombers can still get a shot in on a ship with fighter escort if they are able to use the ship to obstruct LOS to its fighter escorts: X ^ |o| You could also hide your squadrons in obstacles and make them unengageable... this is especially interesting in the context of the station. Anyway, the more you know... 3 chrisdk, wjgo and clontroper5 reacted to this
ransburger 256 Posted April 2, 2015 Whoah... Mind = blown. During my 2 games yesterday I was trying to fly my x-wings into the path of the Vic, with the intent of getting bowled over, repeatedly. Occasionally I had to place such that I was engaged (or so I though apparently) and couldn't bomb. 1 chrisdk reacted to this
Rocmistro 1,090 Posted April 2, 2015 Wow, that is actually very interesting and helpful and something cool to exploit.
InvisibleCalm 157 Posted April 2, 2015 I remember reading that and thinking it was a way you could intentionally disengage squads, by ramming a ship into their furball, of course your opponent would be the one moving the squadrons.
Whistler11 5 Posted April 3, 2015 I remember reading that and thinking it was a way you could intentionally disengage squads, by ramming a ship into their furball, of course your opponent would be the one moving the squadrons. That's a really cool idea! You could exploit it further by forcing an engagement with the opponents fighter screen in the path of one their ships such that they will overlap and allow you to place the squadrons. You're then free to place Luke in an unengaged position to pound that ship. Although I imagine people will catch onto this early, it certainly adds an interesting dynamic to where and how you deploy fighter screens.

Whistler11 5 Posted April 3, 2015 Do Squads lose a die from Obstruction? Yes, as ships and squadrons are subject to the same rules for attacking (page 2 RR) and squadron line of sight is explicitly mentioned in the "Line of sight" section (page 7 RR).
