General Weiss Deck For Review

I've only played 4 skirmish games so far but it looks like the wave 1 command cards give some pretty good buffs to troopers & heavy weapons. The idea with this list is to max out the trooper command cards, replacing some casualties, as well as some cards for a big Weiss alpha strike. I could have gone with 4 stormtrooper squads instead of 3 but in the local meta pretty much no one is going to have less than 6 activations (one guy has a good list that's like 9) so I put in a couple probe droids. Feedback?

 

Edit: Not sure why I called this a deck. Maybe because I also have my LotR LCG stuff sitting out in front of me. :rolleyes:

Im going to be trying out a Weiss build later tonight. Heres my initial draft.

 

General Weiss – 16
Stormtrooper x2 – 12
Imperial Officer x2 – 4
Elite E-web – 8

 

Command Deck:
Reinforcements x2 – 4
Inspiring Speech – 2
New Orders – 2
Endless Reserves – 2
Overrun – 2
Lock On – 2
Strength in Numbers – 1
Take Initiative
Urgency
Deadeye
Planning
Element of Surprise
Fleet Footed
Rally

 

I like the idea of having at least 2 officers giving out orders with Weiss. I also will be messing with the last 8 points. Im thinking another Officer + Reg E-Web will be better but I also want to try out some Royal Guards.

 

My initial thoughts are you drop the probes for officers. This will then allow you to add some Leader cards like New Orders and Inspiring Speech. Just imagine Weiss getting focused or activating a second time in the round.

I haven't toyed with the command deck but any thoughts?

I got a couple games in the other night. Different Command deck though since I haven't picked up Weiss' pack yet. But overall I really enjoyed this squad. I do think the Royal Guards are a better option than the Elite E-Web. The E-web was ok but with how easily the Troopers were going down it feels like the Guards would bring a lot more to the squad than the E-web. Plus I felt like I needed another strong attacker than just Weiss and I was still have difficult getting the E-web in the right spot to get in his attacks. After playing though I had to ask myself if this is any  better than Vader's Fist.

 

Weiss' Army vs Vader's First (Vader, Stormtroopers, Royal Guards, Officers x4)

-Both can order 4 figures in a round to move

-6 cards vs 7

-11 figures vs 10 figures

 

So with each squad similar it really comes down to Weiss vs Vader

-Both have pierce but Vader's is just a tad better.

-Vader can increase his damage while Weiss can Blast. Both are good but Vaders is better in a vacuum. Weiss needs clumps for his blast to even be effective.

-Vader has auto damage while Weiss is doing the work of 2 officers but doesnt need those figures close by.

-Vader rolls RRY and Weiss has Epic Arsenal so he can roll whatever he wants depending on the situation.

-Weiss is range while Vader is melee. Weiss also gets an auto 2 accuracy. Paired with his Epic Arsenal means you can attack from across the map usually with out issue. And ontop of that figures dont block line of sight. So its harder to hide from Weiss.

-Both roll 2 black dice but Vader can reroll making Vader a little sturdier.

-15 health vs 16 health. Not much of a difference here but 1 point can potentially be a game changer.

 

Its really tough for me to decide which card I like better. Vader can clearly put out more damage if he is in the right position. But I love the range potential for Weiss.

 

I think where we will really see the difference between the two builds is in the command deck. Are Vader's cards better Weiss'? I honestly don't know since I haven't seen Weiss' command cards in action. I'll keep posting as I experiment with things.

 

Any other thoughts to this?

Weiss builds do different things than a vader build. I think elite officers are needed with Weiss but that's just my take. I like the at-st better than Weiss even with his movememt breaker because surge 1 blast 2 will be easier to pull off. It just feels Weiss is missing something

I don't think the trooper Weiss builds are the best way to build. If I do go troopers think the elites might be better because of the hit points. I think they are more on the fun side than anything. There is nothing wrong with.

If you go Weiss and e-web I might go e web guard Weiss elite officer officer. I know it's only 5 acts but you can split and do some crazy things with the comman.
