Carpatheon 91 Posted March 27, 2015 When I started X-wing i bought 2 core sets. Would 2 sets of armada be a good idea? For extra dice, templates, fighters and such, or is that overkill?
VaultDweller 139 Posted March 27, 2015 Yes it's a good idea. You won't be disappointed.
CobaltWraith 229 Posted March 27, 2015 While not yet from personal experience, I have ordered two cores and some of the new information from the tournament rules has me feeling rather vindicated by that decision, so I would say 2 cores is a good idea if you plan to really get into the game. 1 Dusksong reacted to this
MaverickNZ 591 Posted March 27, 2015 If you are planning on hosting friends who will be relying on you to supply the game and miniatures, then yes, two sets would be handy for the extra damage deck, ruler, dice and objective cards. Plus you get more fighters and the extra nebulon B and Corvette - but as many people pointed out if you are buying wave 1 then 3 vics might not be that useful. But again, now that the points cap post wave 2 will be 400 points, then possibly. If you are just looking to buy for yourself and have a local club or players who will buy their own to play against, then you can make do with one and pick up the dice and ruler expansions when they come out
Inksplat 272 Posted March 27, 2015 Actually, now that we know the points will be upped from 300 to 400 pretty soon, that makes 3 Vics much more likely to see play. 2 MaverickNZ and 1123581321345589144 reacted to this
Carpatheon 91 Posted March 27, 2015 Cool, i think 2 core sets are in order then. Thanks for the input. 1 CobaltWraith reacted to this
EmpireErik 176 Posted March 27, 2015 I just bought the core set from the LGS and for the price, any extra core sets will be bought somewhere else at a huge savings. I like the game but this one ain't cheap.
wjgo 98 Posted March 27, 2015 You will need Wave 1 for extra commander and upgrade cards. The ships are the same in Wave 1, but they come with new cards.
Grobb 38 Posted March 27, 2015 I suspect the 400 points size the game is probably designed for as per the new rules today mean that the extra two rebel ships and the ties at the very least will be useful
PlayerNine 107 Posted March 27, 2015 One, One, One! I was a huge and vocal supporter of getting 2, but with the update to the rules saying we are running events at 180 points until wave 1 anyway, you do not need to get 2 right away. In the future, yeah, it's a good idea eventually, but for now I have to suggest getting just one, getting familiar with the game, then expanding over time. Replicant253 64 Posted March 27, 2015 I ended up swinging behind the buying of two 2 core but i don't think it as compelling as some other starter sets and the savings aren't massive, but i want to get stuck in at 300 points from the get go and as we may end up playing bigger games then the extra fighters and cards, dice etc managed to convince me that it isn't a bad thing to buy two. ficklegreendice 34,359 Posted March 27, 2015 (edited) personally going for one FFG seems to be pushing for only one core due to the immediate re-releasing of core set ships as Wave 1 ships with upgrade cards you can't find in the core set the Victory in particular is loaded with **** I find to be particularly awesome, and its expensive nature makes me worried that I won't have much wiggle room to include 3 in a given list even with the expanded point limit (might want gladiators at that point) my personal advice would be to hold off on buying too much before you get a couple of core set games in We have no idea what playstyles we're going to enjoy or what's going to be effective for us until we hit the table. I know it's difficult to curb such enthusiasm, but our wallets will thank us hasty purchasing has cost me quite a bit in X-wing (had to sell off an X-wing, two bombers, 2 headhunters, and a Yt-2400) and I'm determined not to make the same mistake with Armada, which seems buy and large more expensive Edited March 27, 2015 by ficklegreendice
