Nightshrike's Scyk

Recommended Posts

So, my friend Carl agreed to paint some very simple squadron schemes on a couple of M3As for me, but then he surprised me and gave me this today:

My lame pictures don't really do it justice, but in person the face he created on the front of the ship with its red eyes and white fangs is really apparent.  I am in love!

a face! Like the old P-40 Warhawk!

Yes indeed!  That's exactly what I wanted for my Dunelizard originally, but I think it fits the Scyk even better.  They really do look like little vampire bats, or maybe little nightshrikes.  Either way, I think it's super awesome.  Will definitely be flying it in my store championship, along with the rest of my fleet (nevermind the human phylogeny cheatsheet they're flying over):

Maybe I'm being dense, but I cannot figure out what ship that is on the far left in the picture above. It looks like an E-Wing kinda, but I can't tell. So what ship is that, if you don't mind me asking?  ;)

It's a Mel's Miniatures Dunelizard, the upgrade to the Scyk from Jump to Lightspeed.  I need to do a better paint job on it, but I'm still learning.

I like how it's not fuzzy. Did you invest in a higher grade of plastic?

I think you'll like paintjob more if you put a little metallic on the engines, so that they're engines. Then a little black back on them (drybrushing) to make those engines look sooty

The engines are actually a dark metallic already, but it didn't really show the way I wanted.  I'm working with a palette of 3 colors, so I'm experimenting to try to make it as variable as possible.  But I'll give that a try, as I'm not totally happy with the engines myself.

It's not fuzzy probably because I got the frosted ultra detail one, rather than the cheaper ones.  It still isn't quite as smooth as FFG's models, but it's pretty good.

It still looks pretty good, and I see why you're a Dune Lizard enthusiast.

Will you be playing it with Scyk stats, or something homebrewed?

I think I'll probably go with the Dunelizard thread and see how that works for me.  Of course, I'm too busy with quals to test it out until next week.  For the store champs, I'll be running 2 Ys and 2 Scyks though.  Love the little guys.
