Counter Attack

Recommended Posts

Gurus,

"...monster resolves an attack that affects you..." We are unsure what "affects" entails. Does this mean if our defense is high enough that the monster's damage is negated we were not affected? Or by simply declaring a hero a target is it affected?

Peace

I believe it means that whatever the monster did actually affects the hero, that is he hit a hero for at least one heart (after adding the hearts rolled and subtracting the shields) or the action did its intended thing (e.g. the hero didn't make his might roll, so the master ettin tossed him 3 squares).

I disagree with this definition of "affected."

When a figure declares an attack, it chooses a target space for that attack containing an enemy figure. Some abilities, like "Fire breath" or "blast" may cause additional spaces to be affected by the attack. Any figure occupying a target space or another space affected by the attack is "affected" by the attack, regardless of the outcome.

What krejaton has described is the "damage dealt" by an attack. Some surge abilities, like those inflicting conditions, require at least 1 damage  to be dealt. (Though Alarmed correctly points out that "Throw" is not an attack.)

I might be wrong but by definition, "to affect" means to have and effect on.

Following this logic, every attack that is not a miss and/or has suffisant range will affect the hero since this hero will require to defend itself.

The defense is the effect of the attack.
