Which scenario for one player?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Due to no interest locally, I'm going to be running ZA for just my wife. She will be playing a younger version of herself from before she knew me. Her character will be 18 years old and employed at Walmart. She'll be working 3rd shift stocking shelves when the metaphorical crap hits the metaphorical fan.

Any suggestions on which scenario I should run for her? We plan on this not being a one shot adventure and want to develop this into a full fledged campaign. All suggestions are welcome.

Possibly the it ends in a whisper might be an interesting one as there's plenty of scope for roleplaying for both the apocalypse and post-apocalypse sections which can lead to some particularly interesting storylines. Also if she's not familiar with the scenario there are plenty of twists on the zombie theme that should make it fresh and interesting for her.

For more of a gritty survival story perhaps pandemic where she can go from trying to survive against vicious sprinters to making her way in a gang dominated land as the infection subsides.

All of them have their pluses and negatives though.

Is your wife still in touch with any (local) friends that she knew from back then?  Even if they aren't role-players, they might be interested in pretending to be 18 again (oh, btw, zombies.) =P

It could be the perfect combination of girl's night + gorey apocalypse scenario!

Actually "Girl's Night" would make a great title for a movie along these lines.  (I like to imagine my RPG games like they're movies, B-rated or otherwise.)

...

GirlZ Night?  (See what I did there?)

(The Z is for Zombies)

(OK, I'm leaving now.)

I'm going to disagree with Amroth. I think It Ends With a Whisper is the most story-driven and has the most stuff going on in the background and thus works better for a continuing campaign: After they get out of the city, you can send them on a mission to get gris gris or to hunt the priest in the area or defend their base from a directed zombie attack.

I think for one-shots you should go short and brutal and end with death and crushing defeat. To that end, I suggest Under the Skin.

EDIT: I completely misread the original post. I guess I missed the "not" in "We plan on this not being a one shot adventure."

Armed with my new-found literacy, I totally agree with Amroth (who has much better reading comprehension than me)! I think It Ends With a Whisper is a great choice for all the reasons that both he and I stated.
