Is this product priced correctly? $62 for less than 150 pages!

Recommended Posts

Maybe this is just an Australian thing - but I am holding this book after a long wait - and just cant understand how this cost me $62....

Does anyone agree? I paid not too much more for Edge of the Empire and Age of Rebellion - which have almost 3 times the content?

I cannot help but feel disappointed - I was honestly expecting more.

RRP here is actually more - I got it for less. I have no idea what your exchange rate is in the Netherlands - it just seems to be priced at a similar price point for a normal sized core rulebook of 400+ pages.

62 Australian Dollars - which converts to about $50 US - which to me is what I would pay for a full core rulebook usually - this is not much thicker than a Module which is about $20 (no hardcover though admittedly)

It's a tad over priced everywhere I think although for you it sounds particularly bad. In the uk it was about £28 which i think is about $42.

For a book of this size it should really be cheaper. It's a great game but still I see your point

I think my issue is all the books will be at this price tag and....realistically what will you be getting new in each book? New scenarios of course but the system will remain largely unchanged. Would be good if the scenarios could be bought at a lower price tag rather than ending up with 4 books detailing the exact same system.

So just don't buy the others in "dead tree" format. Buy them in pdf and print out what you need.

I, for one, will be getting all the hardbacks for several reasons. 1. I love the game. 2. The books are beautiful. 3. I want to support FFG, as I love their products and company. 4. THESE WILL LOOK AWESOME on my gaming shelf. :D

I love the production values on the book, and the internal art is awesome.

But the book is pretty short, and I feel like there could have been more content - lots more examples of positive and negative features, and more examples of how you would use the rules different situations like combat or chases. A lot of work is left for the GM to do. I would have liked more story lines, like traditional 'adventures' rather than the scenarios.

I'm also not sure what the replay value is, how many apocalypses are your group going to want to do until it becomes a bit samey?

So I think the production values go some way to justify the price, but I probably won't buy any of the other books in the series.

General consensus seems to be the price point while high - is suitable for the first book but FFG probably need to have a think about the price point for the subsequent books if they want more people to see some value and purchase

I see some comments about complaining - I think its important that these things are voiced for the success of the publisher. I dont really want to see the next three books come out and only sell a handful of copies to fanboys only because despite good content and production quality, the price point is a bit high.

We as consumers provide feedback and if its economically viable and customers are listened too - a lower price point might be the result - and more books will be sold and enjoyed by all!

Each book is intended to be a stand alone product. Sure some may want them all, but others may be only interested in a Cthulu apocalypse, an Invasion of Body Snatchers or a Terminator end times. I don't see any issue for the price point. $40 bucks for a pretty simple and easily adaptable game is a pretty good deal in my book.

I'd rather pay the prices as they are now, than have them lowered and end up with a lower quality book to match the lower price. Sure, they could shave off $10. But if they do, would that mean poor quality paper or a crappy bind? Would they go from a sturdy hardback to a flimsy softcover? I'd rather pay more and get a good product than pay less and get a mediocre one.

I noticed one of the complaints was that there could be a lot examples of negative and positive features and possibly more on traumas as well.

One way this could be resolved was if FFG released a small PDF file covering such things and make it available on the support page like they do with additions to many of their other lines. As a free product with would enhance the value of the book to a degree.

Just putting it out there if any FFG officials might be reading this forum ;)

In fact it might be worth making a thread where people can put their ideas for good support material. Then again it might just get side tracked with lots of people's ever increasing ridiculous requests and then break down with people arguing over what's most important so maybe not, lol.

Very true but a few more examples might help those who like to have their hand held and may also be useful with coming up with some negative and positive features that players might not have considered.

It certainly wouldn't be an in-depth document covering every possibility just something to add a bit of extra flavour.

In reply to the OP thus the answer should be:

"No, it is not priced correctly." in short.

The price in US $ is 39,99 and thus you having been charged US $50,- means your price was 25% higher than it should have been.

I picked it up at €35 which converts to $39...

Also, I think that is a more than reasonable price for the product by the way.

Ah, nope. Sadly.

The Australian Dollar has taken a fairly huge tumble in the last few weeks. Where it was up around $0.90something US, it's now $0.77 US. Yay, it's dropped a $0.01 overnight. I picked up this book yesterday for $64.00 AUD.

It's part due to our economy, it's also in part due to Australia being an island nation, and fairly remote to a certain extent. Pretty much everything has to be shipped in. Which means pretty much everything is dearer than in the US or mainland Europe. :(

Here's my take... for what it's worth :)

The product base price of $40 USD is rather steep if you go by page count alone. But looking over the rule set and the book content, it's about the same amount of content that you'd get from a 300 page Players guide from any other system so the price is inline. The beauty of this system is that it is rules lite, therefore you aren't paying for a bunch of minutia... which is what all the additional pages are in a more detailed rule set.

Now also remember, this is a licensed product from a Spanish company that they most likely have to pay royalties to, so that is probably (definitely) factored in to the price.

Now here's what I HOPE they are going to do... since the printing and shipping cost of the physical book is lower due to it's minimalist nature, I hope there are LOT's of online articles and module to support it. Perhaps I'm dreaming, but I sure hope so.

And last but not least, if the physical book price is out of line, Drive Thru RPG has the PDF for half.

//end rant//
