Slade000 5 Posted February 10, 2015 So last session I've noticed some disturbing things happening and just checking that everything is being done right: Gar charges, attacks, cleave goes off. He then Brutal Cleaves something else, he can then kick off Cleave again? An then second action attacks AGAIN once again getting a cleave off (Provided he gets enough Surges etc.) It hurts my poor little storm troopers so much... Not to mention he has Reach... lol. I know that Brutal cleave can only kick off if something is adjacent to his first target, but cleave can hit anything else within his reach... And then Jyn... With Gunslinger and two pistols before any dice are rolled she's getting 3dmg, and then with Surges it's another +3dmg... Really hurts!
Fizz 986 Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) Looked up the card, and yeah, this is right. Garkaan is going to effectively get 3 attacks, First with the charge attack, second with the possible Brutal Cleave, and third with another attack action. And each attack can deal cleave damage to an additional target (assuming you get surges). Note that the cleave damage only affects one additional target and only the amount of damage listed. For example, Cleave 2 would deal 2 damage to a single second legal target. Edited February 10, 2015 by Fizz
Alarmed 257 Posted February 10, 2015 Just a note to make things less harsh: Cleave has to be a legal target. not "adjacent" to the target, unlike blast. So if Garkhan (G) has reach, and there are 3 stormies S1, s2, s3 GxS1S2 xxx S3 S1 is a legal target for Garkhan using reach, but he cannot cleave S2. He can cleave S3, however. Brutal cleave, though does affect a target adjacent to the first. So he could attck S1, Cleave S3, Brutal Cleave S2 and cleave either S1 or S3.
Fizz 986 Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) Grid added to example: (using Courier New as an even spaced font is perfect for these grid examples) [_][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][G][_][1][2][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][3][_][_][_] 2 is not a legal target because, even though it is adjacent to 1, it is not in range of Garkhan's Reach. Alarmed 257 Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks Fizz, that makes it much more understandable. I'm away from the game, though, can someone confirm if what i said about Brutal Cleave is correct? I'm pretty sure I remember it being "an adjacent figure" to the first target.
player26506 26 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) Brutal Cleave; 1 strain: exhaust this card after you resolve an attack with a melee weapon. Perform an additional attack targeting a different figure or object adjacent to the target of the attack You need to exhaust the card so the second time you can't use brutal cleave again. and remember when you attack using reach, you need line of sight to the target. It does not require accuracy but being within 2 spaces of you doesn't mean they can be attacked by your reach. so brutal cleave or a normal attack can't be declared to figures you can't see (for example being behind another figure who is adjacent to you) and the same for cleave Edited February 11, 2015 by Roolakhol
Alarmed 257 Posted February 11, 2015 But you could 1) Attack Stormtrooper 1, Cleave Stormtrooper 3; 2) Brutal cleave Stormtrooper 2 if he was 1 offset from his position in Fizz's Diagram because he's adjacent to 1, Cleave Stormtrooper 1 or 3 3) Repeat step 1 [_][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][2][_][G][_][1][ ][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][3][_][_][_]
player26506 26 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) [_][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][2][_][G][_][1][ ][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][3][_][_][_] in this diagram, gaarkahn can't brutal cleave stormtrooper 2 because is 3 spaces away, and even with reach he can't make an attack because '2' is not in "melee range (within 2 spaces)" [_][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][2][_][_][G][1][ ][_][_][_][_][_][_][_][3][_][_][_] in this case, then is correct. brutal cleave allows you to make an additional attack to an adjacent figure, but it's a normal attack after all and you need to fulfill the requisites.
